Featuring the first racer profile of our Drone Racing at Somerset Belt training program, 'Titus' Teo Kai Yee from Republic Polytechnic
1. Age
18
2. When and how did you start drone racing?
I started drone racing through the D1 Drone Racing programme at the age of 18. Before that, I have been flying drone through school and CCA programmes.
3. What or who inspires you?
Since I never really knew drone racing was a thing, I cannot answer this question well. However, I kept up a small flame of interest in drones because of their versatility and possibilities they open in the future, such as in search and rescue operations.
4. How did Somerset Belt play a part in supporting your passion for drone racing?
I didn't know about the Somerset Belt partially because I didn't know about drone racing.
6. How do you envision the drone racing scene to grow at Somerset Belt?
I envision that the Somerset Belt will extend drone racing to a wider audience as well as more people to pick up drone racing. Through the first person view (fpv) drone simulator sessions and flying fpv drones, I have enjoyed myself and can see many others taking a liking and enjoying the thrill that comes with drone racing.
7. Any advice for budding drone racers out there?
My advice is to continue growing your interest and polish your skills. "Talent" can only take you so far. Beyond a certain point, a person without talent but has been continuously putting in the hard work and training will beat a talented person who failed to do these things.
Stay tuned for more profiles of these rising stars!
