On 23 March 2015, we bid farewell to this great man who brought Singapore together and led us to where we are today.

A simple post to help us remember him as we busy our lives daily. But for this day, do take a pause and thank this man.

🗼 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵.

Most importantly, we also want to remember his wife, friend, and tower of strength, Mdm Kwa Geok Choo.

Madam Kwa Geok Choo and Mr Lee Kuan Yew were often regarded as inseparable. Yet, it was when he published his memoirs in 1999, Singaporean public truly grasped the depth of her significance to him.

During their time at Raffles College, she outshone him, emerging as the top student in English and economics by the end of the first term. She posed formidable competition for the coveted Queen's Scholarship.

🙌 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲.

It may surprise you to learn that Mrs. Lee played a pivotal role in drafting the constitution of the People’s Action Party. In the 1959 general election, she even took to the airwaves, delivering a persuasive speech urging women to support the party.

Renowned as one of Singapore’s finest conveyancing lawyers, she lent her expertise in 1965 to assist Law Minister Eddie Barker in crafting the clauses of the Separation Agreement, ensuring the preservation of water agreements with the state of Johor.

Throughout much of Mr. Lee’s political journey, she served as his unofficial speech editor, starting from his inaugural speech to the Malayan Forum in 1950.

Using a quadrant to decide what is urgent and important to-do list might be helpful; but life does not allow you to compartmentalise that easily.

Because everything is urgent! Sound familiar? 🤔

Why?

We start with a scarcity mindset that we only have 24 hours a day, which is true, but what if there is another way to look at time?

If you can change how you look at time, you can change how you prioritise and live your life and work.

And I am going to share three 𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 perspectives on seeing time.

1️⃣ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗨𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗨𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁

If you had all the time in this world, the question would no longer be about what is urgent and essential.

Instead, the question you are asking yourself is, what is meaningful to do here today?

If you can tell yourselves that this particular task you are doing is meaningful, be assured that the following will arise.

🚀 Increased positive energy to the task on hand.
🚀 Creating more creativity and vibes to the job.
🚀 Better able to handle stressors from work.

Start asking what is more meaningfully urgent rather than what is more urgent and it would likely shift your list of to-do.

𝙼𝚎𝚊𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚏𝚞𝚕𝚗𝚎𝚜𝚜 𝚒𝚜 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚙𝚛𝚒𝚘𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚜𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚖𝚎𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚒𝚜𝚖．

2️⃣ 𝗪𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟯𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀.

Most people work tirelessly as though their life span is infinite.

In my speaking keynote, I shared that a life span of around 82 years works out to 30,000 days.

You and I will likely have less than 30,000 days when reading this.

When you see your life by the number of days, you cannot not shift your perspectives about time.

I am left with less than 13500 days.

𝙱𝚢 𝚞𝚜𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚖𝚢 𝚛𝚎𝚖𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚍𝚊𝚢𝚜 𝚊𝚜 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚋𝚊𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚎, 𝚒𝚝 𝚜𝚞𝚍𝚍𝚎𝚗𝚕𝚢 𝚋𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚌𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚛 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒 𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚍 𝚝𝚘 𝚍𝚘 𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚘𝚏．

3️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗲, 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗠𝗕𝗨) 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀.

Well… there are no bed of roses.

MBU is there to distract you or perhaps suck time and energy out of you.

# That is why starting with not the most challenging but the most meaningful task is crucial psychologically.

# The positive, empowering feeling you get from meaningful tasks will give you the energy required to tackle the MBU.

# There will always be mundane, tedious tasks, but the key here is to start your day meaningfully.

Time is only an illusion, but with 30,000 days in mind, you can activate most days to be highly meaningful.

😱 Fear of failure is highest when you're looking at the ultimate destination. To reduce fear, close the gap. Focus on the smallest action that moves you forward.

🗓 An empty calendar is a competitive advantage. The person who fills their calendar with average opportunities has no time for exceptional ones. Your attention goes where your focus is.

🌟 To the person in a strong position, every change is an opportunity. To the person in a weak position, every change is a struggle to stay in the game. Focus and Win the decade, not the day.

⏳ Just because it's taking time doesn't mean it's not happening. As long as you keep your focus on the right thing.

🌤 What seems like miracles are actually efforts and commitment focused over time. One day, week, month, year, at a time.

⌛ The longer the time frame for results, the less you need intensity and the more you need consistency.

😷 Consistency isn't simply willpower, which comes and goes. Consistency is doing it when you don't feel like doing it.

🚀 If you want advantageous divergence, you have to do the things that matter on your best day and your worst day.

💯 Even if you can't give your 100% that day, showing up is a form of consistency, even if all you have is just 40%.

I chose to go Behind-The-Stage (BTS) ever since I returned to the training and speaking scene after I lost everything I had, including a near-death episode.

I have taken a big step back and never imagined being a speaker manager today.

Ａｎｄ Ｉ ａｍ ｌｏｖｉｎｇ ｉｔ！ 😘

Having been a trainer, speaker, facilitator, team-builder and events guy myself, I realised I had everything I needed for this new identity and have loved this backstage me.

🤔 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗧𝗦 𝗴𝘂𝘆,

+ There is no stage
+ There is no speaker
+ There is no event

Nothing ever happens without the BTS guy.

But you can’t see me.

BTS does require you to be invisible most of the time, but…

The speaking industry has a lot of “bling-bling”, limelight and spotlight.

Not many are willing to let go of the limelight to go backstage.

Everyone wants to make a difference on stage, but the most significant difference made is backstage!

It is the place where making a difference really makes a difference.

1️⃣ If you're stuck, change your perspective. What you see from 20,000 feet is very different from what you see from 2 feet.

2️⃣ The more time it takes to explain a course of action, the less likely it is to be a good one.

3️⃣ When things go wrong, it's almost always because of distraction. Chasing what's sexy comes at the expense of doing what's boring. Consistently doing the boring stuff builds success.

When I was 13 years old, my life changed when I was labelled a "slow" learner.

➡ I was directed to a "normal" stream class compared to students in the "express" stream.

➡ While the express stream need four years to graduate, we have to stay an extra one year.

➡ I worked hard for the first three years, wanting to get into the express stream.

Hᴏᴡᴇᴠᴇʀ, ɴᴏ ᴍᴀᴛᴛᴇʀ ʜᴏᴡ ʜᴀʀᴅ I ᴛʀɪᴇᴅ, I ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ɢᴏᴛ ɪɴ.

😱 𝗠𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗘𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

At age 15, my worst day was ranking fourth in the class while the top three went to the express stream. I was so close and I missed it.

I cried in the washroom, unnoticed except by my teacher who saw my red eyes.

Despite my hard work, she chose not to appeal my case, leaving me resentful for not understanding her "bigger" reason.

⤴ 𝗠𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗘

That day, a shift occurred within me.

I told myself that since I couldn't get into the express stream, I would become the EXPRESS in my class.

Iᴛ ᴡᴀꜱ ᴀ 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗘 ꜰᴏʀ ᴀ 15-ʏᴇᴀʀ-ᴏʟᴅ.

I worked hard, excelling in most subjects, except math, don’t ask me why? 🤣

Eventually, by year 4, our class has the most number of normal stream students in Singapore who scored multiple straight As.

⛺ 𝗠𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘

We were a STRONG TRIBE by then, That year, almost every leader in the school's uniformed groups sat in my class.

+ The most notorious students in the school became the leaders that year.
+ We proved that we could excel in our lives if we believe
+ And we suddenly feel we belong.

It was this unique tribe we belonged to, a space we worked hard, played hard, and supported one another for the past five years together,

🚀 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗧𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺.

Every one of us graduated that year and I remembered the bigger reason my teacher mentioned.

𝔼𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕪𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕙𝕒𝕤 𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕚𝕣 𝕘𝕚𝕗𝕥, 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕪𝕖𝕤, 𝕚𝕥 𝕥𝕒𝕜𝕖𝕤 𝕥𝕚𝕞𝕖 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕚𝕥 𝕥𝕠 𝕗𝕝𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕚𝕤𝕙 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕤𝕡𝕖𝕣.

Who would have thought this average student would be a professional coach and speaker manager today?

What seemed to be a failure back then turned out to be a 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗠𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 later in life.

When you look back, are there events in your life that sharp and sharpen you to be who you are today?
