Freedom, Balance & Buoyancy: How Children Learn to Swim 23/01/2026

In swim lessons, it’s common to see children who can float or copy movements — yet still struggle to adjust when their balance or body position changes.

Learning to swim isn’t just about staying afloat. It’s about developing body awareness, balance, and control in the water.

This article looks at how children actually learn to swim, and why freedom of movement and buoyancy placement matter more than we often realise.

Freedom, Balance & Buoyancy: How Children Learn to Swim Why freedom of movement, balance, and buoyancy placement matter more than flotation when children learn to swim.

Why Swimming Pool Water Feels Warm or Cold | Swimrific 17/11/2025

I remember thinking just last week, “It’s so hot for November — the monsoon’s late.”
The very next day, Singapore gave us overcast skies and heavy rain. Classic. 😅

During these sudden weather shifts, parents often ask us:
“Will the pool be cold today?”

The interesting thing is — the water hardly changes.
But we do.
And that’s exactly why the same pool can feel cold on a sunny day and warm when it rains.

One of our favourite parts of teaching is connecting everyday experiences (like shivering toddlers and rainy-day lessons) with the actual science behind how our bodies sense temperature.

We put together a new blog post explaining why swimming pool water feels warm or cold, and why your child might find rainy-day swims surprisingly cozy.

Read it here 👇

Feel free to share this with a parent who always asks about pool temperature! 💙

Why Swimming Pool Water Feels Warm or Cold | Swimrific Cold one day, cozy the next? The pool didn’t change — you did. Discover the science (and a real-life rainy-day story) behind why some pools feel warmer when it rains.

Why Singapore Pools Feel Cold — Even in 30°C Heat 06/09/2025

🧊 Why does the pool feel freezing… even when the sun is out?
You’re not imagining it — and you’re not alone. Even in hot, humid Singapore, outdoor pools can feel icy. 🥶

We dove into the science (yes, real research!), building design, seasonal weather, and even how kids feel the cold more than adults.

If you’ve ever:

💬 Shivered at the pool despite 34°C sunshine
💬 Cancelled a swim because of the rain last night
💬 Wondered why your child won’t stop complaining it’s “too cold”…

This one’s for you. And it might change the way you think about swimming pools forever.

Did you know that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children aged 1-4? It's a sobering statistic that we cannot ignore. That's why we're all about making swimming the first sport your child learns — it's more than a sport; it's a lifesaving skill!

🏊‍♂️ Why Swimming?
Swimming is the only sport that can save your life. Early swim lessons equip kids with essential skills like entering and exiting water safely, floating, and basic movement techniques. These skills are vital for reducing the risk of drowning and promoting a lifelong enjoyment of water activities.

👶 Start Early:
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends beginning swim lessons as early as one year old. Early exposure builds water comfort and critical skills needed for safety.

🛡️ 5 Layers of Protection:
Learning to swim is part of the 5 Layers of Protection which also includes barriers and alarms, adult supervision, life jackets, and emergency preparedness. Together, these layers enhance safety and reduce drowning risks.

Make Swimming Your Child's .

If you care about children's safety, join us in spreading this life-saving message and share it on your profile to create awareness. Let's make a splash in promoting water safety together!

Together, we can create a safer environment for our children around water. Swim lessons save lives, and it's never too late to start. Dive into water safety with us and be a champion in our community!

Much thanks to our friends at National Drowning Prevention Alliance for coming up with this video!

Meet the newest addition to the Swimrific team, Brandon!

Don’t let his default status of being Shirlyn’s bub fool you into thinking that he’s gonna be resting on his laurels. Brandon’s looking forward to help us advocate for baby swimming while he himself learns to swim, love, enjoy and respect water!

We think the number of in-pool attachment hours he’s clocked while in his personal submarine (mom’s tummy) is impressive. 🤣

Having said that, we’re happy to announce that Shirlyn is back to her classes!
