NES invites you to sign your child up for our Overnight Camp for children aged 7 to 12 years old, from 7 December (9:00am) to 8 December (11:00am).🌙🏕️

Staying overnight at camp is a unique experience that can create lasting childhood memories. More than simply spending a night away from home, children experience what it means to live together as a community, learning to look after themselves, care for their friends, and navigate new experiences together. Throughout the camp, they are encouraged to overcome challenges, solve problems, and find ways to adapt and thrive in unfamiliar situations and contribute to a shared community through nature experiences that are difficult to fully replicate in everyday life.

A lovely, mindful atmosphere awaits them as they prepare their own meals throughout the day. Many children enjoy the experience of preparing their own food, and it is often one of the highlights of our Overnight Camp! 🥗We will also gather around the campfire for a special evening of stories, songs, and a sing-along, creating a cosy and memorable experience under the stars. As spaces are limited, do sign up early to secure your child’s place. We look forward to sharing this special overnight adventure with them!

This November/December holiday, give your child the opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, and discover more about themselves. Join us for our 2-Day Holiday Camps, where children will explore some of Singapore’s beautiful green spaces and parks, coastal nature areas, and lesser-known trails and natural spaces. They will connect deeply with nature, learn more about themselves, develop a love and appreciation for nature, and discover the flora, fauna and wildlife. At Forest School, we value the process of learning, exploring, and simply being present in nature. Through child-led play and guided adventures, children develop essential Forest School skills, build teamwork and resilience, and form meaningful connections with nature. Most importantly, they are given the time and space to discover who they are, what they are capable of, and how they can contribute to the world around them.

We hope to create a holiday experience that stays with them long after the camp ends, not just as an activity they participated in, but as memories, skills, friendships, and a deeper connection with nature that they can carry with them.

Over the holidays, our children ventured into Singapore’s coastal habitats, discovering the fascinating marine life that calls our shores home. Through our intertidal exploration, they had the opportunity to slow down, observe closely and build a deeper connection with the natural world around them.
We were also delighted to have a special collaboration with WS Education, where we featured The Intertidal Adventures of Biogirl MJ alongside our intertidal walk. The book offered a wonderful way for the children to connect stories and learning with what they were seeing and experiencing outdoors.

The children also enjoyed child-led play such as climbing trees, balancing and playing along parallel ropes, navigating rope ladders, rope swings, and simply finding their way around these green spaces using their map reading skills.

Our adventures also took us beyond nature and into Singapore’s history. At Labrador Park and the Seah Im Bunker, the children discovered stories, historical sites and relics that gave them a glimpse into Singapore’s past.

From coastal discoveries to climbing, playing, exploring and uncovering stories from the past, we hope our children return for many more adventures with us!

Do keep a lookout for our upcoming holiday camps, which will be shared here on our Instagram page and on our website.

Until our next adventure…

🌿 Exploring beyond our usual spaces 🌿

As part of our Termly Outings, the children ventured beyond their familiar Forest School Base Camps, to explore and discover other green spaces, natural landscapes and different ways of connecting with nature and with their friends.
🌊At the coast, the children explored a rocky beach through an intertidal walk, discovered the fascinating life along the shoreline, splashed about during water games and challenged themselves through rope play.
🌱Over at Tampines Eco Green, the children from the Monday session slowed down to observe the plants, flora and fauna around them, explored and played around and in the pond and immersed themselves in the sights and sounds of a different natural environment.

One of the biggest highlights was outdoor cooking! From delicious quesadillas and warm, comforting hot cocoa to toasty rice krispies, there was something extra special about enjoying food that children made together in the great outdoors. These outings give us a time to reflect and to slow down and make memories together.
We’re looking forward to all the adventures and discoveries that Term 4 will bring!

We celebrated 7 years as a Forest school! We had a nice gathering to thank our coaches. These are a rare breed of people, warm hearted and yet also physically tough in the outdoors. We presented them with medals that they rightfully deserved! Thankful for all the parents that have supported and believed in our programme through the years as well. We are really grateful to have this opportunity to work with children. When the session starts, it hardly feels like work as it is all fun and enjoyment with them. To many more years! 💚❤️

Our forest trees are more than part of the natural and green landscape. They are sacred spaces of shelter, connection, creativity, movement and rest. Under their shade, children find respite from the sun. Among their majestic branches, they climb, balance, take risks and discover what their bodies can do. Beneath their green canopies, children create, imagine, play and find a quiet place to pause and be present. Time spent around trees and natural green spaces has long been associated with benefits to our health, mental well-being and sense of connection with the nature. In our forest school, trees are not just the backdrop to play and learning… these trees are part of the experience itself, often offering countless possibilities for child-led play.

If we show children why we care for trees, they grow to be stewards of earth who understand why these are worth protecting. 🌳💚

NES celebrates Singapore’s National Day in August. 🇸🇬🌿

At Nature Explorers School, we believe that loving our country also means learning to listen to its stories, especially the ones quietly held within our green landscapes, forests and natural spaces. Our forests are more than just places to explore. They hold traces of our past, stories that are sometimes forgotten, and reminders of the journey Singapore has taken to become the nation it is today.

This National Day, our children gathered to talk about the recent developments surrounding Maju Forest, what these changes might mean for Singapore’s future, and what they hope to see in the years ahead.

And they had so many hopes and dreams. 💭🇸🇬 For a Singapore filled with nature, love, kindness, understanding and care for one another. Perhaps this is what it means to celebrate our future is not simply by looking ahead, but by listening to the voices of the children who will one day lead us there. If we nurture them well, guide them with wisdom, and give them opportunities to play, question, care and dream, they will grow into the leaders who carry Singapore forward, towards a future that is not only successful and prosperous, but also one filled with love, empathy and kindness. ❤️
Happy 61st National Day, Singapore! 🇸🇬🌳

Lots has been said about the clearing of the Maju forest. We have shared our view with HDB via their Environmental Impact Assessment form.

Human beings have always had a connection to the land since ancient times as we are all part of nature, and this is important for our healthy development. But due to globalisation, we are losing more and more of this connection, and think that we are above nature. Unfortunately for Singapore, it is a balance of what we do with the scarce land that we have. We just worry that the impact of clearing nature spaces is not considered enough. You have to understand what you are dealing with first before you realise the importance of what you are removing. These natural spaces are beautiful places for us to connect with nature. We have seen this story before with the clearing of previous forest for housing needs and we are worried this trend will continue to happen. We hope that more of natural spaces can be left as it is, we don’t need more parks or flattened paths. We have conducted magical programmes before in these forest and we are saddened by the potential lost of this place. Within this Maju forest is also a beautiful long natural trail that cannot be replaced or rebuilt once lost.

We hope that as in this photo, that these would not be the last children in the forest. That children of tomorrow can still have the privilege and opportunity to experience playing in it just as their forefathers have before them. 💚
