Most importantly, its her birthday! Happy Birthday dearest Amma. Thank you for your lifelong unwavering empowerment of the best in people. Shout out to my fellow beneficiaries Dr. Ramesh Ramachandra Krishna Ramachandra Gane Ramachandra

**Meet Jaya Baleswari Ramachandra, everyone! **

Mind Spirit Works is delighted to announce the author of our upcoming book - Jaya Baleswari Ramachandra!

Jaya Baleswari was born in Jaffna, Ceylon, and moved to Singapore with her husband and her four children in 1972.

In this memoir, Jaya outlines her life in two parallel tracks. As a Ceylon Tamil whose third of the community is now part of a global diaspora, Jaya recollects in the first half her memories of growing up in her homeland, shares about her family as well as recall key events unfolding in Ceylon in the 1950s that set the stage for subsequent ethnic unrest.

In the second half, she recounts the adventures in her new adopted land of Singapore, adapting to a different culture and lifestyle, facing challenges in health, finding her entrepreneurial spirit and joy of volunteering, witnessing with anguish the escalating violence back in Sri Lanka from the 1980s and the 25-year long civil war that ensured as well as losing her nearest and dearest in recent years.

Jaya counts her blessings for the people and situations throughout the years and looks forward to continuing her life-long learning and connecting with new people and new situations.

The book is available for pre-order on Amazon.

“Is there room for Love in a family business?” 26/06/2019

Which comes first - the family or the ?

My co-facilitator from , Ramesh shares her take on this. Read to find out more.

“Is there room for Love in a family business?” As established in my previous article, many entrepreneur-owners of family businesses would sooner demonstrate love for their children than entrust them with their business. It’s like the famous Godfather line, “It’s not personal, it’s business.

“I love you my child. I just don’t trust you with my business yet.” 29/05/2019

In working with family businesses over the last 15 years, one of the recurring themes we observed is that business owners who love their children may not necessarily trust them with the business.

My colleague and sister, Ramesh, who just completed her doctorate on innovation in family businesses, has something to say about it:

“I love you my child. I just don’t trust you with my business yet.” Most big businesses that we know today started out as family businesses. In fact, just a week ago, it was reported that three family businesses in the United States – the Walton, Koch and Mars families – have a combined wealth of US$348.

“I’m swamped”, “My plate is full”, “Why so last minute?”, “I’m stressed” – these seem to be new anthems of the modern day executive. And most times, many of us pride ourselves for overcoming the hurdles and obstacles and challenges in getting things done. But do we ever stop to wonder what these things are doing to us?

Life is full of worries. The challenge is to look beyond. That’s what my sister, Ramesh, and I seem to be doing at our most recent class at Bangkok. Or maybe we were just looking at the Lunch specials ✌🏼

Whenever I see birds resting on phone wires, I’m reminded of how they look like notes on a music sheet. Ring a bell?
