For the past month, we had the pleasure of welcoming Sensei Jia Lu from Chengdu, China back to the Shinju-Kai Headquarters — spending her time training intensively under the tutelage of Philip Lee Shihan, alongside our senior instructors at the headquarters.

It has been a month of learning, refining and reconnecting.

In Aikido, progress is never simply about learning more techniques. It is about returning to the basics, sharpening what we already know, exchanging experiences and continuing to grow — no matter how many years we have stepped onto the tatami.

And perhaps that is what makes a dojo family special.

Distance may separate Singapore and Chengdu, but when we share the same lineage, traditions and values, stepping onto the mat together always feels like coming home.

Sensei Jia Lu has now returned to Chengdu, carrying with her another chapter of training, memories and friendship from Singapore.

But this is certainly not goodbye.

Next year, it will be our turn to visit her dojo in Chengdu and from what we hear, there may be something rather special being prepared!

Let’s just say… an anniversary celebration may be on the horizon 🇨🇳

Until we meet again, Sensei Jia Lu. Keep training. Keep refining. Keep the tradition moving forward.

LADIES OF AIKIDO | 静けさの中に、強さがある - “Within stillness lies true strength.”

In Japan, there is a saying:

「柔よく剛を制す」 - “Gentleness overcomes strength.”

Aikido has never been about who is bigger or stronger. It is about learning to move with purpose, remain calm under pressure, and discovering the quiet confidence that comes from mastering yourself.

Every week, while the world rushes by, these remarkable ladies here at the Shinju-Kai Headquarters choose something different.

They step onto the tatami.
They put down their phones.
And for a few precious hours, they invest in themselves.

Not just building technique—but cultivating patience.
Not just learning self-defence—but developing presence.
Not just becoming better martial artists—but becoming stronger, more centred individuals.

There is something beautifully Japanese about this pursuit: the belief that true refinement comes through Keiko (稽古)—the continuous practice of polishing oneself, one step, one movement, one evening at a time.

Strength can be graceful. Discipline can be peaceful. And confidence can be quiet.

To every lady on the mat—you are not just learning Aikido. You are living its philosophy.

Join one of Asia’s leading Aikido organisations, right here in Singapore, and discover why the greatest journey in martial arts is not defeating others… but continually improving yourself.

WEAPON WEEK - The sword and the staff are not merely weapons—they are teachers.

Every strike, every cut, every step reveals something about our empty-hand Aikido. Through weapons training, distance becomes clearer, timing becomes sharper, posture becomes stronger, and intention becomes unmistakable. Suddenly, techniques that once felt mechanical begin to make perfect sense.

As O-Sensei once taught, “Aikido is the way of harmonising with the movement of the universe.” Weapons remind us that true power does not come from force, but from precision, awareness, and unity of body, mind, and spirit.

Under the guidance of Philip Lee Shihan, every Weapons Week is an opportunity to return to the fundamentals—to refine our body movement, understand the origins of our techniques, and deepen our appreciation of Aikido beyond what the eyes can see.

The more we study the sword and jo, the more we realise that they are not separate from Aikido—they are Aikido itself.

If you’re looking to learn authentic Japanese Aikido rooted in tradition while embracing modern, world-class instruction, there is no better place.

Train with one of Asia’s leading Aikido organisations, right here in Singapore. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced martial artist, your journey begins with a single step onto the mat.

There is a reason why so many senior practitioners continue to gather every Wednesday evening at the Shinju-Kai Aikido Headquarters.

Under the guidance of Philip Lee Shihan, every class is a reminder that Aikido isn’t about learning more techniques—it’s about refining the fundamentals until they become second nature. Every movement, every entry, every turn is taught with purpose, precision, and decades of experience.

At Aikido Shinju-Kai Headquarters, there are no shortcuts. Only honest practice, meticulous attention to detail, and a relentless pursuit of improvement.

Whether you’ve trained for years or are looking to deepen your understanding of authentic Aikido, this is where you’ll experience instruction passed down through generations, directly from one of Singapore’s most respected Aikido instructors.

If you’ve ever wondered where to learn and pick up this beautiful art at its highest level in Singapore, your search ends here. The dojo doors are always open to those who are willing to learn with humility, dedication, and an open mind.
