Hello! We're a group of volunteers from YCS working with MINDS to raise awareness for PWIDs! Contact us at [email protected] Thank you!

Doraemon is a character that is always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. On various occasions, when there is no one simple solution, Doraemon would think of creative ways to aid the person. Hence by adopting this name, we hope to embody the kindness, creativity and resilience of the character. We are a group of volunteers under National Youth Council's Youth Corps programme Cohort 3

Let's Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day! 🎉

Photos 09/03/2016

Join our team on 18th March to advocate World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD)! World Down Syndrome Day takes place on the 21st of March annually. It is a day for commemorating Down Syndrome and we hope that through our event, we can raise public awareness, understanding, inclusion for people with Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs) in Singapore, as well as increase participation annually on the 21st!

We need YOU to give out colourful socks and temporary tattoos to the public and encourage them to participate by wearing either the socks or temporary tattoos we have given them. On top of that, you can help explain what Down Syndrome is, what it means to have Down Syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome are essential in our lives and communities.
We will be teaming up with students from SIM and Loyang Secondary to help us advocate this special cause to the public! What are you waiting for?! Sign up closes on 13th March! Join us!

Hope to see you there!

More about WDSD❗: It is a commemerative day, celebrated annually on 21 March to advocate the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down Syndrome (also known as Trisomy 21). The date for WDSD, being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome. It was first observed in 2006 and was officially declared "World Down Syndrome Day" by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011.

FACT #4✨: Many people believe that people with down syndrome are always happy. That is not true as they experience the full range of emotions just like anyone else. They respond to positive expressions of friendship and are upset by inconsiderate behavior.

FACT #3✨: People with down syndrome do not have a shorter lifespan compared to people who don’t have the condition. This is especially so due to better research and awareness over the years. As today is the 1st day of March, we would like to begin sharing some facts about Down Syndrome! This would continue on up until 21st March, officially known as “ World Down Syndrome Day(WDSD) ”! We hope that by doing so, we can help more of you understand what Down Syndrome really is, and hopefully encourage you to play a part on the 21st this year!

Prep for our fundraiser Clothes For a Cause all done! All ready for collection at Innova JC tomorrow! ✌️ Thank you to Sherlyn and her friends for helping out!

Back to when we conducted a door-to-door survey to understand the Tampines community's view and understanding of MINDS (Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore) and PWIDs! It was a success and allowed us to have a clearer vision as to where and how we should direct our project! This was fundamental for us to gain insights on current situations and helped us kick-start Project Empathise Not Sympathise (PENS)! We were also lucky enough to have had Nando's sponsor us with vouchers for their new 'Peri Peri Chicken' to give to the residents!
