As the area of the triangle gets progressively smaller towards the tip, so should the scope of your discussion!
The base of the triangle represents 'topic sentences'. They should be relatively broad (just like the base!) and should not be too detailed in their scope. It provides readers with an idea of the upcoming discussion but nothing overly specific.
The middle section of the triangle represents 'explanations'. The smaller area would indicate that students need to start providing details for a more focused discussion instead of just a general overview; provide readers with relevant information.
The tip of the triangle represents 'examples'. Small and narrow, students can likewise remember that the examples they provide should be concise and specific to their discussion.
