Liberia’s men’s national team canceled its June FIFA international friendlies against Mauritania and Benin, citing financial and logistical constraints imposed by the Government.
Lone Star was scheduled to face Benin, ranked 19th in Africa, and Mauritania, ranked 29th. Instead, the team will now play neighboring Sierra Leone ranked 32 in Africa in a back-to-back FIFA International Friendlies on June 6 and 9.
Responding to inquiries, the LFA media department confirmed the change: “The men’s national team will now play Sierra Leone in a home-and-away series, canceling the previously reported fixtures against Mauritania and Benin.”
According to the LFA, the decision was made in consultation with the government, which preferred Sierra Leone as an opponent due to lower costs and simpler logistics.
