BREAKING: Police officer filmed brutally assaulting man with club speaks out
A police officer, Capt. Richard Ruai Kuol, has been identified as the man seen in a viral video brutally assaulting a young boy on a public road
The video, widely shared on social media this afternoon, shows the boy being repeatedly beaten while lying on the ground. The attacker is identified as Richard Ruai Kuol, a serving officer in the South Sudan Police Service with the rank of Captain.
However, Kuol denies the ealier reports that the boy he had beaten was a rickshaw driver. In his own account of the incident, he told Hot in Juba:
"I was coming from Hai Malakia heading to Hai Cinema when two drunk boys came fighting each other. One of them pushed the other boy toward my car, and I nearly knocked him down. Immediately, the boy who was pushed to my car started breaking my front mirrors ā both the right and left ones. When I got down from the car, they both ran away. I chased one of them until I caught him, and that was the boy I had beaten."
Kuol further explained that he was later taken to the CID. However, by the time officers arrived to bring in the boys, they had already left ā including the one he had assaulted. Consequently, Kuol said he was allowed to leave.
The disturbing video has angered many netizens, who are now calling on the authorities to bring Kuol to justice and ensure a fair judgment is delivered.

Police vow to arrest man over assault of rickshaw rider in Juba
The spokesperson of the National Police Service has vowed to track down and arrest a man identified as Richard Ruai Kuol, an alleged police officer captured in a viral video assaulting a rickshaw rider in Juba on Tuesday afternoon.
The video, which circulated widely on social media on May 5, shows the suspect reportedly a captain in the South Sudan Police Service repeatedly beating a man believed to be a rickshaw rider as he lay on the ground. After the incident, the suspect is seen returning to his car, which had a damaged side mirror.
While the exact circumstances remain unclear, eyewitnesses say the confrontation may have been triggered after the rider allegedly broke the vehicleās side mirror.
According to reports by Eye Radio, National Police Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin strongly condemned the act, stressing that no one is above the law.
āIn such cases, the victim should open a case. If his side mirror is broken, he must file a complaint and allow the law to take its course. He cannot take the law into his own hands, whether he is CID or not, to beat a citizen. The law is very clear,ā he said.
Maj. Gen. Daniel further emphasized that even if the suspect had filed a complaint, he would still face arrest for assault.
āOur laws are very strict on how civilians should be treated. We do not tolerate such behaviour,ā he added.
He also urged members of the public to report any incidents of harassment or misconduct by security personnel to the appropriate authorities.

126 years ago, on the 1st of March 1896, the Ethiopian Empire under Menelik II inflicted the greatest military defeat on a European colonial power during the Scramble for Africa, when they decisively defeated the Italians at the battle of Adwa.
At a time when European powers were carving up Africa during the Scramble for Africa, the Ethiopian Empire under Menelik II did what many believed was impossible. They defeated a modern European army in open battle and preserved their independence.
The Italian forces, equipped with rifles, artillery, and trained under European military systems, expected a quick victory. Instead, they were met by a highly organized Ethiopian army made up of tens of thousands of warriors from different regions, united under one goal. Leaders like Ras Makonnen and Empress Taytu Betul played key roles in coordinating forces and strategy.
The Ethiopian army used terrain, coordination, and timing to their advantage. Rather than fighting as scattered groups, they moved in disciplined formations, surrounding and overwhelming Italian brigades that had become separated. What followed was not just a victory, but a decisive defeat that shocked Europe.
By the end of the battle, thousands of Italian troops had been killed or captured, and the invading force was forced into retreat. It was one of the few times in history where an African nation successfully resisted European colonization on such a scale.
