Russia Backs South Sudan’s December Elections, Offers Training in Moscow

JUBA, April 21, 2026 — Russia has officially pledged support for South Sudan’s upcoming December elections, signaling stronger diplomatic ties between Juba and Moscow.

During a high-level meeting, Presidential Affairs Minister Hon. Africano Mande Gedima received Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Kosmodemyansky, where both sides reviewed bilateral relations and future cooperation.

The Russian envoy emphasized that relations with South Sudan are based on mutual respect, sovereignty, and non-interference. He confirmed that Moscow will provide electoral training to South Sudanese officials, boosting preparations ahead of the polls.

Russia also expressed readiness to deepen cooperation in political, economic, and cultural sectors.

Presidential Press Secretary Arek Aldo Ajou welcomed the move, highlighting opportunities for investment and development partnerships.

The announcement comes as South Sudan prepares for a crucial electoral process expected later this year.
