South Sudan Needs Commitment, Not Crisis: A Call to Uphold the Peace Deal

Introduction

On March 3, 2025, a disturbing incident occurred in Nasir County, where tribal youth militias, known locally as the White Army, attacked units of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF). This confrontation immediately sparked fears across the country and the region that South Sudan might be slipping back into civil conflict. However, this should not be mistaken for a return to war.

This is not a national crisis; yet. It is a moment of political testing. And what South Sudan needs now is not fear, but serious dialogue and unified action from the parties to the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS). Tribal militias do not represent the will of the people or the direction of the peace process. Their actions must be clearly condemned and their influence neutralized through political leadership and institutional reform.

Responsibility of the Parties to R-ARCSS

It is concerning that since the attack, only minimal responses have been made. Most of the R-ARCSS signatories have remained silent, while the ambivalent stance of the SPLM-IO adds confusion rather than clarity. In the face of instability, silence is dangerous. Unity of voice and purpose is crucial.

A routine trip to the library thus opened up a world of questions in the mind state of one sociologists: how could such a small college have produced a number of great achievers,the likes of whom had never been seen in the entire history of a far larger, and highly prestigious, university? What historical differences might effect patterns of achievement within new England, on the one hand, and pennsylvania, on the other? In an effort to answer this question, E.Digby baltzell began a long course of Sociological investigation, and we shall look at his findings later in this chapter. For the moment, however, we can note baltzell 's effort consumed many years of careful planned research. Using the Sociological perspective, he studied the historical differences in patterns of achievement among the natives of the regions surrounding Boston and philadelphia. The final result of his efforts was the award _ winning book puritan Boston and quaker philadelphia ( 1979) , a classic example of Sociological thinking baltzell's work illustrates the use of more than the Sociological perspective. It is also an excellent example of what this chapter is about: sociology as scientific investigation.
