Ateny Calls on MTN, Zain and Digitel to Reach Underserved Areas

Caretaker Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services Ateny Wek Ateny has challenged telecommunications companies to expand network coverage beyond major towns and reach underserved rural communities.

During a consultative meeting with MTN, Zain and Digitel, the Minister called for stronger cooperation between government and telecom operators to improve connectivity across the country.

With the December 2026 elections approaching, Minister Ateny stressed that reliable communication is essential for citizens to access information and participate in national processes.

The government says rural connectivity remains a major challenge, with many communities still facing limited access to mobile and digital services.

The Minister previously pledged to expand network coverage to remote areas of Aweil West County, where poor connectivity has affected communication with authorities and access to digital public services.

Juba County Commissioner Calls for Empowerment of South Sudanese Traders

Juba County Caretaker Commissioner, Kalisto Lado, has called for more business opportunities for South Sudanese in the capital.

Speaking during his visit to Kaburi Stream on Monday, Commissioner Lado said small-scale businesses should be reserved for South Sudanese to empower local youth and entrepreneurs.

He encouraged foreign nationals living in Juba to invest in bigger projects and industries that will create jobs for South Sudanese, instead of small businesses like chapati selling and boda boda riding.

According to him, this move will promote local economic empowerment and ensure South Sudanese benefit from business opportunities in their own country.
