FOOTBALL STORIES
The story of player Christoph Kramer, who lost his memory during the 2014 World Cup final, began with a strong clash between Ezequiel Garay and Christoph Kramer.
Philipp Lahm recounts:
"At first, I wasn't worried about Kramer's injury. He played normally after returning to the pitch."
Thomas Müller on Kramer:
"He spent enough time with the medics, so I wasn't worried."
Manuel Neuer:
"When Kramer came back onto the field, everything seemed normal, but at some point, I noticed from a distance that something was wrong."
Müller:
"What leaked to the media at the time was that Kramer asked me, 'Is this the final?' Unfortunately, there was something worse."
Lahm:
"He came to me and asked to wear the captain's armband. I said, 'What's going on here?'"
Müller:
"He kept calling me by the name 'Gerd' (referring to the legendary Gerd Müller) and congratulating me on the 1974 World Cup final."
Neuer:
"He came to me in front of the goal and asked to take my place."
Müller:
"As the tension increased, he kept cheering, but Kramer was seeing the fans in another stadium. He said, 'The atmosphere is amazing in the Ruhr stadium.' (The match was played at the Maracana)."
Lahm:
"He went to the referee and asked to swap shirts with him."
Müller:
"Lahm came to me and said we had to substitute Kramer."
Müller:
"We had to put an end to this absurdity. None of us knew what would have happened next. Maybe he would have asked for the referee's underwear."
Nikola Rizzoli, the referee of the match:
"After the collision, Kramer came to me and asked, 'Is this the final?' I thought he was joking, so I asked him to repeat the question. He asked again, 'Is this the final or what?' I said, 'Yes.' His reply was, 'Thank you, it was important for me to know.'"
Once Neuer learned about the incident, he urgently requested that Löw substitute Kramer.
