Sailing Illusion

set off early June 2013 towards Rapa in the Austral Islands, but on the way there the engine was seriously damaged. The rest of the journey (Rapa to Raivave, Raivavae to Tahiti, Tahiti to Nuku Hiva, Nuku Hiva to Hawaii) was done under sail. Doug made it to Hawaii in September before his injured shoulder and the weather put an end to that season's sailing. After surgery to repair his torn rotator cuff and bicep - injuries sustained during a particularly dramatic moment whilst trying to repair the engine, and made worse during his 15 day solo sail from Nuku Hiva - he was advised not to sail in 2014 to allow for recovery. 2015 saw a new baby, a family bereavement and bad storms just when the engine was finally working, so it wasn't until June 2016 that Illusion finally made it to Vancouver.
