Wrapping up 2025 in a high note.
The club's 3rd Anniversary was a big success. The day was filled with joy and excitement through out. We played, interacted, laughed, analysed and ate. It was a big day indeed.
Congratulations to Kwanele Ngwenya , who came on top with 10/11 points, followed by Santiago DeNobrega with 9/11 and Qiniso Lovefield Heaven with 8.5/11. They were able to win themselves good money, sponsored by Mtsambama Inkhundla MP.
Wandiswa aka Nhlane Nation, the club's highly competitive player, came 4th with 8 points, and he couldn't believe it. In his comment, he said, he wished that the games would start over, and this time around, he'll come on top.
Once again, we would love to thank all those who came through to support. Special thanks to Lovefield Chess Academy, big support!!
Stay tuned for updates on upcoming activities for the year 2026. Wishing you all happy and Safe festive season.

The Physicist and the Mathematician on the Chessboard
When I have the opportunity to serve as a chess trainer or coach, I often share with my students that chess can be viewed through the lenses of mathematics and physics, leading to two distinct types of players: the mathematician and the physicist.
My understanding is that one type of player, the mathematician, approaches chess primarily through calculation skills. Conversely, the physicist plays by comprehending the position and applying fundamental concepts and knowledge, rather than relying heavily on extensive calculation.
For instance, a mathematician might meticulously calculate a sequence of moves for most of their pieces to determine the optimal play.
A physicist, however, would typically assess the position to identify an opponent's weaknesses and evaluate their own pieces, which then guides their move selection.
I frequently observe that it can be quite straightforward for a physicist to play, particularly in imbalanced positions with limited time.
What are your thoughts??

The Love for our Game is Growing Beyond Limits.
"Okay guys, seems like we have a problem with our venue today, I'm gonna have to dismiss you"
"No worries coach, we're dismissing you, but if you change your mind, you’ll find us at the park 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♀️"
And it turned out to be one of the best sessions we have ever had. We got to play, analysed and learnt from our games. They always say that, the best way to improve is to learn from your games.
Today we got to learn a very instructive endgame which came up from a game played and we couldn’t be more happy about today😌.

We Never Lose but Take Lessons - PowerHouse 🫡
However, this time around, we were the ones giving out lessons to our opposing club, Lobamba Lomdzala Chess Club.
Going into Round 7 this Saturday with our under 16 player short, due to exams, our club proved to be strong for Lobamba Club as we scored 4/6 points in Classical and Blitz. And held a 3/3 draw in the rapid format.
This concludes the 1st leg of Unifoods chess league and the 2nd leg shall resume next year 2026, January. The club is currently sitting at 5th place in Classical and Rapid formats. 6th place at Blitz format.
We promise to only give out lessons for all our 2nd leg games, and possibly get 1st or at least 2nd place.
