The publication of the recent newspaper article on the Shirley Motsa Memorial Race marks a powerful moment for us as a cycling community. It is a reminder that this event is bigger than a race—it is a movement of remembrance, unity, and advocacy for road safety.

We are encouraged to see the story of this race reaching a wider audience, touching hearts, and bringing attention to the importance of protecting all road users. Shirley’s legacy continues to inspire us to ride with purpose, to stand together, and to keep pushing for safer roads across the country.

Our hearts were also with her two beloved boys, who were not able to attend the event. Though they were absent in person, their presence was deeply felt in every pedal, every cheer, and every moment of silence. They remain a living part of Shirley’s legacy—her strength, her love, and her spirit continue through them. This race, and everything it stands for, is as much for them as it is in memory of their mother.

To every cyclist, supporter, sponsor, and volunteer—this is your moment too. The visibility created by this article belongs to all of us who believed, who organized, and who showed up.

Let us use this momentum to make the event even more impactful. Let us ride in numbers, in unity, and in honor.

The journey continues. 🚴‍♂️

What a truly unforgettable day! 🙏🔥

Thank you, God, for making it all possible. Today we came together to celebrate the life of our dear friend and passionate cyclist. Cyclists came out in their numbers, bringing energy, unity, and love for the sport. Not even the rain could dampen the spirit of the cycling community—we pushed through, stronger and more determined than ever.

From the early morning start to the final stretch, the atmosphere was electric—cheers, laughter, and the sound of wheels on the road reminding us why we ride. Today was not just a race, it was a powerful tribute, a moment of reflection, and a celebration of a life that continues to inspire us all.

Many doubted us, many were against us—but driven by our love for you, we pressed on. 💙

We did it, Amdu! 💙 Your spirit rode with us every kilometre.

It was truly amazing to witness cyclists who had not ridden their bikes in a long time dusting them off and coming together once again with fellow riders. This speaks volumes about the impact of this event and the deep connection within our cycling family.

A heartfelt thank you to the organisers, sponsors, media and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event a success. Your dedication, passion, and commitment made this day truly special.

To every cyclist who participated—you made this event what it was. Your presence, resilience, and sportsmanship were incredible to witness.

2027, we are coming back even bigger and stronger! 🚴‍♂️🔥
Your legacy lives on forever. 💫

RE: Shirley Motsa Memorial Race – Event Continuing as Planned

Newcom Wheels Cycling Club would like to reassure the cycling community, stakeholders, and the public that the Shirley Motsa Memorial Race, scheduled to take place on 21 March 2026 in Siteki, will proceed as planned.

The race was organised with the sincere intention of honouring the life and legacy of Shirley Motsa, who was a passionate cyclist, runner, and a valued member of the sporting community. The event also aims to promote awareness about the safety of athletes on the road and to celebrate the impact she made within the cycling fraternity.

Newcom Wheels Cycling Club has noted the recent article in which members of the Kenny family indicated that they will not be attending the memorial race. While we respect their position and understand that matters of remembrance can be deeply personal, we would like to emphasize that the memorial race remains a community initiative meant to celebrate Shirley’s contribution to sport and inspire continued dialogue around athlete safety.

The club remains committed to ensuring that the event is conducted in a respectful, dignified, and inclusive manner. We welcome all cyclists, supporters, partners, and members of the public who wish to join us in remembering Shirley and promoting safer roads for athletes.

We encourage all registered participants to continue preparing for the event and invite others to register and be part of this meaningful occasion.

Yours Sincerely

Newcom Wheels Cycling Club Management

“The Blue Train” — the powerhouse squad of Newcom Wheel Riders — were firing up the mountain during the Team Time Trial at Phocweni over the weekend.

Riding in perfect formation, the blue machine powered through the climb with discipline, rhythm, and relentless pace. Each rider committed to the rotation, pulling strong at the front before smoothly slotting back into the line — a true display of teamwork and tactical ex*****on.

The mountain tested strength and endurance, but the cohesion of the unit made the difference. Their tempo never faltered, and their communication remained sharp, proving once again why they are one of the most respected squads in the peloton.

A performance that was not just about speed — but about unity, trust, and collective strength.

Lining up alongside her male teammates in the Blue Train formation, Mandiswa matched the pace on the climbs. Well done to the team. Keep shinning.
