"Blue Day" is a royal composition, the 8th in the series, by King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
It was composed on February 3, 1949, while the King was recuperating in Davos, Switzerland.
This jazz ballad conveys feelings of longing for a loved one, specifically his fiancée, Sirikit (then Mom Rajawongse Sirikit Kitiyakara), who was in Lausanne.
The inspiration behind the song stems from the King's separation from his loved one, likening it to a "blue day" when the sun sets ("อาทิตย์อับแสง"), yet it carries a message of hope that they would reunite .
("จวบจนทิวาเรืองงาม สบความรักยามคืนคง" or "until the dawn breaks and love remains").
