Some people just prefer hobbies where they don’t get kicked in the ribs. I don’t understand it, but I respect their right to be wrong 😚

This one's for my fellow aggressive fighters 📢
When you’re pressure-fighting an opponent who wants to back up, create space, and use their long-range weapons, the ropes can be your best friend in the fight. But too many fighters waste this advantage by swinging wild at the head while their opponent is perfectly safe shelled up inside a tight guard.
In the center of the ring, an opponent can step back to offset some impact. On the ropes, they have nowhere to go. They are forced to absorb 100% (arguably a bit more if they are really squished tight!) of the impact. My favorite ways to do this, and be able to utilize my style to my advantage is to slow them down with strikes to their midsection.

Muay Thai Hot Take 39: You are allowed to say “no” to a sparring round 👀
In Muay Thai culture, there’s an unspoken pressure to accept every challenge thrown your way. We’re taught that saying “yes” to everyone is a sign of toughness, and saying “no” makes you look scared or difficult.
Being kind (to yourself and your training) is setting a boundary that ensures you actually make it to your next session, and life outside of the gym.
Training time is a limited resource. Too many people, waste their rounds or end up with preventable injuries because they felt obligated to spar with someone who doesn’t actually spar to learn.
As Anna points out, you can be polite, you can offer an alternative, but if they take your boundary the wrong way? That is officially not your problem.
