a few months ago, i traveled to kyrgyzstan to climb and document the first phase of the five peaks project with the goal to climb ibn sina peak [7,134 m] as fast as possible, from base camp to the summit and back • a fast ascent attempt on one of the highest mountains in central asia • there was just one twist, i had no previous mountaineering experience.

for four weeks, i lived between 3,600 and 6,000 meters, navigating glaciers, crevasses, and extreme altitude to capture this story.

this film documents one of the most physically demanding experiences i’ve ever had, and i’m incredibly proud to finally share it.

iten is real and it is the most important thing for me in nowadays world where almost everything is photoshopped, ai’ed or faked • city is full of real people with real problems and simple needs, and some of them really needs to fight to make a day • home of champions is full of athletes who confronting daily wins and losses, and dealing with fears of not becoming good enough, but at the same time cherishing the process • the struggles, frustrations and grind are real on both sides and that is the beauty of it.

iten is paradise for gravel running, but suddenly i felt “home sick” • i love mountains and i missed them badly, so needed to act • being in the kalenjin people area, from where dozens of world champions originated, i wanted to explore the origins and historical habitat of this ethnic group and so decided to spice up my running experience with high altitude hiking trip to mt. elgon [koitobos peak 4222m] • long day in national park [and in the car] was well rewarded for being lost purely in untouched nature, breathing new microbiota in, immersing into the stories told by locals, spotting exotic animals, visiting kitum cave, where elephants licking salt and of course climbing to one of mt. elgon peaks [as has few] on the edge of kenyan caldera • what an adventure!

for a few weeks i am a guest at home of champions in iten, kenya • the place is not random choice, fashion thing or chasing some placebo, it is my new approach to training and preparation for upcoming trail racing season to get a bit of fresh air and clean the dust from the long standing procedures • moreover, it is always interesting to explore new country & new running destination where people still smile to strangers, say hi and ask how do u feel on daily basis • iten’s famous clay roads are such a vibrant areas, filled with all kind of world champions and running enthusiasts that it creates very unique running atmosphere • i have never seen so much testosterone packed in one place and that energy w***y nilly makes everyone more disciplined, more focused and so better, therefore, i am not really sure if it is high altitude and red blood cells which everyone is hunting here or just this common effort which makes running magic to happen • my running journey is full gas on!

i stopped chasing “me”, the one which world expects me to be • it is hard task in nowadays society which needs constant comparison, validation and where u are judged no matter what • saying that, i do approach races with the exact same attitude • Peaks Sports g.o.a.t 100km +6000m race is the beast, it challenges mentality & physically in all possible dimensions, from the steep climbs and technical descents to flat roads and fast trails, from high temperatures during the day to freezing ones during the night • this time my path to the race was bumpy with a lot of stress accumulated in personal & professional life, but good thing about trail racing is, that it frees and evaporates all negativity out • my start was far cry from ideal, even though i was relaxed, the legs were numb and refused to cooperate, well, not the first and not the last time • from the early beginning, elite runners, like sprinters passed me with wild determination and scary speed • i didn’t have to prove anything to nobody, but myself, so i took time to find my rhythm and move at my own tempo while keeping myself well hydrated and being disciplined with nutrition • step by step i climbed the mountains and positions – 2nd overall • guess, being myself and in my own zen starts to pay off!

Trail Running Factory madeira camp filled me with peace, which is so needed to move through the ultra called life • trail running, same as a life, is not a sprint, it is long journey where u need to find your own rhythm, move at your own speed, pace yourself effort wise, laugh, love deeply no matter what and with each step stronger and stronger propel yourself forward • tnx trf family for this wisdom, shared miles, smiles, life stories, jokes and conversations which were endless like madeira’s levadas.
