🦠 YOU HARM THE ANIMAL
Turtles and fish are covered in a delicate, invisible layer of mucus that acts as their immune system. When you touch them, you literally wipe away their natural defense against parasites and transmit toxic land-based bacteria from your hands directly to their skin.

⚠️ YOU MIGHT HURT YOURSELF
The ocean touches back. A startled turtle has a beak strong enough to easily crush hard coral (and your fingers). Reaching out also puts you at immediate risk of brushing against highly venomous creatures hiding in the reef, or getting severe coral cuts that are notorious for dangerous infections.
