A notice to all customers: ALL BOOKINGS CANCELLED!
As you've all seen the devastation and destruction to The Hideaway caused by tsunami-like waves and king tides brought by cyclone Harold, all bookings for this year is cancelled. We won't be taking any bookings for next year as well until we're 100% confirmed to be in operation, whenever that may be. We apologise for the inconvenience caused, but we're sure you understand. We will contact everyone to let them know directly and also offer our assistance in any way we can.
We need time to assess and consider our options. We will rebuild and this will take time. We need to take the rest of the year to recharge and refresh!
Two weeks prior to cyclone Harold, Tonga was in a state of emergency to lessen risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) and due to regulations all businesses (except essential services) were shut down. There were lock-down and self isolation rules and curfews. We shut down Hideaway and we consider it lucky that we didn't have any guests here during the cyclone, and for that we're grateful. God works in mysterious ways!

It's not clear how long this state of emergency will last or when the lock-down rules ease up, and now adding on the damages from cyclone Harold. We hope and pray things will ease up soon.

We are looking forward to new beginnings.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

While we feel sorry for the ocean for the pollution and having to store so much of our rubbish there.. One thing is clear...there would be a new dive site in front of Hideaway! :-) All the remnants of the rooms, car, shipping container amongst other assets would be there presumably. Imagine snorkeling or diving 'Hideaway under the sea'

Yes...it's another cyclone but this time it was the ocean that did the most damages. Our hearts goes out to all those affected, our fellow comrades in tourism on Tongatapu and 'Eua. After giving thanks and praise that everyone is safe...we are in awe at how nature communicates with us. Count our blessings everyone! All is not lost...this is just another hurdle and another humbling experience. With the photos being sent over, one thing is clear....the water cement tank is still the bomb! Apart from most of the rooms wiped out, the car and shipping container in the yard were also taken. The 4 rooms facing the garden escaped with some damages but at least still standing. That building was on higher ground and the brunt of the force was taken by the trees and 2 fales in front of those rooms. And the fact it was built with concrete and cement. So basically...we have the structure of the rock house standing and the water cement tank. A very blessed easter to everyone, and give thanks and praise for the gift of life.

Such devastation! We are ever so thankful and grateful that Tupou and her family is safe. Tupou and her family were staying at The Hideaway, taking care and looking after things. We've made contact with the staff and we're so happy to know everyone is safe. So emotional to hear the danger they were in as the waves wiped out everything in its path. We only have one life...everything else is replaceable. We will upload pictures soon. The power of nature is really something. God bless everyone!

Our Story

A journey that started out in 1998/1999 by the founder, Kanongata’a ‘Jeff’ Hausia (R.I.P 2007).

The owners Viliami and Melenaite Hausia had taken the extra step to continue and expand the services The Hideaway has to offer and have managed to keep things afloat with so many challenges throughout the journey. A lot of learning along the way and well worth it. The Hideaway touched every corner and helped build up the tourism industry on ‘Eua especially the land tours and whale watch industry to benefit the locals. We always believe in sustainable tourism.

We provide accommodation located on the waterfront. There is a total of 10 rooms and each have private bathroom facilities. We provide meals. We organise tours.

We believe in providing quality service and we are blessed to have met and made friends with so many wonderful people that have passed through and stayed with us. It’s always amazing to see a lot of our regular and returning customers.
