A MESSAGE TO OUR RUNNING COMMUNITY
We want to take a moment to clear the air following some of the comments made on our recent posts.
Someone suggested that this page should be taken to court because we have spoken about an incident that we did not personally witness. A runner who says she was present at the event, has challenged the account that was shared with us and has offered a different perspective on when and how the incident occurred.
We welcome that perspective.
The purpose of this page has never been to spread hate, attack individuals or deliberately share false information. We want to discuss genuine concerns within our running community, and when information is provided to us by someone else, we will make every effort to clearly identify it as their account rather than something we personally witnessed.
We have been part of the running community for more than 10 years. We have watched the rise of BAFA and participated in and followed events throughout that time.
Our concerns did not begin with one incident.
Over the years, we and other runners have raised concerns about communication, promises regarding closed routes, course safety (particularly around certain Midnight Series events), restrictive bib-collection arrangements, and incidents involving injured runners. We recognize that people may disagree about individual events, who was responsible, or exactly what occurred. Those disagreements are welcome here when expressed respectfully.
If information we share is shown to be inaccurate, we are prepared to correct it. We are interested in facts, not creating a narrative simply to prove ourselves right.
But disagreement does not mean that runners should stop asking questions.
We believe runners have every right to ask whether an event was properly managed, whether adequate safety measures were in place, what could have been done differently, and what will be done to prevent future incidents.
We also acknowledge that many people support BAFA and have had positive experiences at their events. They are entitled to share those experiences here as well.
At the end of the day, our message is simple:
We want better for all of us at each and every event!
Better communication.
Better organization.
Better accountability.
And, above everything else, better safety for runners.
We are runners too. We care about this community, and we believe asking for higher standards ultimately benefits everyone who laces up and stands on a starting line.
We want better. We expect better. And we will continue to demand better.
