Bunbury takes silver, Jackie bronze as T&T teens shine in Bogotá

Trinidad and Tobago’s teenage fighters delivered a double podium finish at the GAMA Pan American Championships in Bogotá, Colombia, with Jonathan Bunbury claiming silver and Eli “The Architect” Jackie taking bronze.

Bunbury secured the silver medal in the Under-18 boys 52.2kg MMA division, finishing behind Colombia’s Jose Luis Melo, who captured gold.

Jackie, a Form 5 student of Rio Claro West Secondary School, completed the Trinidad and Tobago medal haul with a third-place finish and bronze.

The two young fighters therefore occupied two of the three podium positions in the highly competitive division, with the host nation’s Melo taking the top spot.

Jackie’s bronze has been celebrated by Rio Claro West Secondary School, which praised the young athlete for representing both his school and Trinidad and Tobago on the international stage.

The school highlighted his discipline, determination, hard work and commitment, describing his performance as an achievement to be celebrated by the entire Rio Claro West Secondary community.— Story by I.A.N News

Congratulations to Eli "The Architect" Jackie on bringing home the bronze medal from the 2026 GAMMA Pan-American Championships!

Stepping onto the international stage takes immense discipline, relentless preparation, and serious heart. Eli constructed a brilliant campaign throughout the tournament, displaying surgical ex*****on, tactical composure, and the true grit of a champion. Every grueling hour in the gym, every round of sparring, and every sacrifice paid off when his hand was raised on the world stage.

This bronze medal is a huge milestone, but knowing "The Architect," it is simply the blueprint for even greater victories ahead. The entire team, your coaches, family, and supporters couldn't be prouder of this massive achievement.
