Two consecutive weeks we drove through a herd of hundreds of elephants. When we saw the elephants in the road in front of us we looked around, and they were on both sides of the road. And crossing the road in front of us and behind us.
The dry season has started, so water is becoming scarce.
People and animals in the bush are having to travel far to get water. The elephants are coming out of the forest to find water in rivers. This is problematic since the elephants are not staying in the game parks. The elephants are coming into villages to look for water and food. These elephants are the largest land animals on earth, reaching heights of 13 feet and weighing up to 7 tons, traveling in herds of several hundred elephants.
They can cause a lot of damage! When they pass through the forest they leave a path and broken branches and downed trees. This week we had to pull a tree that had fallen out to the road so we could drive through.
People are killed each year from elephant attacks. An elephant can easily push over a vehicle if he is angered or just does not like it in his way.
Please pray for the villages impacted by the dry season and elephant movement.
God bless you,
Pastor Daniel
