In response to the “USA Newsletter May 2020”, published by Pipistrel USA distributor, we are issuing the following official statement:

Pipistrel is engaged in a development project for a 19-seat hybrid-electric aircraft as part of the Unifier19 project with distinguished academic partners. At the moment, no 3rd party commercial entities or companies are involved. In parallel, Mahepa – a project led by Pipistrel, is creating important technological foundations for future developments. In the course of project Mahepa our partners have developed and tested exciting next-level powertrain components, including best-in-class electric powertrains and hydrogen-fuel cell propulsion systems. We are looking forward to flight demonstrations in 2020.

The information that Pipistrel is running a program developing a large cargo-delivery hybrid-electric UAV in-house is accurate. For this program, we will be communicating about progress on a separate occasion, when we are ready to unveil the exact specifications, purpose and capability.

For the Project-801 eVTOL Air Taxi, with which Pipistrel is one of Uber’s partners, Pipistrel has decided to reduce the intensity of development. The 801 project was never interrupted but is continuing with slowed-down pace in favor of accelerating large cargo delivery UAVs. We keep both projects in parallel, which allows the use of the same development methodology and tools for both vehicles. The project has flown several scale models and performed full-scale system testing in the meantime. The decision to prioritize the large cargo-delivery hybrid-electric UAV was made based on an increasing amount of indications that due to regulatory and other constraints the realistic entry-into-service (EIS) is being pushed back towards 2028. With this, we will be looking forward to demonstrations beforehand and remain committed to participating as vehicle partners in the Uber Elevate initiative.

Pipistrel has decided to provide an OPEN ACCESS to ALL ONLINE TRAINING MATERIALS during the current period of world-wide enforced isolation as a testament and dedication to safety through continuous training and learning.

Pipistrel Academy Computer-Based Training Courses are now available free-of-charge to anybody, for three months.
We hope this will motivate non-flying pilots as well as student pilots and flight instructors to stay connected to their passion and learn more every day.

Anybody, whether student pilot, pilot, flight instructor or aviation enthusiast, flying clubs, flight schools can apply and join the online course free-of-charge for a period of 3 months, from April 2020 until end of June 2020. The online course gives detailed information and knowledge of different Pipistrel aircraft.

Pipistrel is offering completely free of charge the specially designed and developed Online Training course for the Alpha Trainer UL/LSA/BCAR, the Virus SW UL/LSA, Virus SW121 and the Alpha Electro. Normally the online course fee is 147.30€ for 14-days or €247.30 for Permanent subscription. Courses can be accessed from anywhere in the world, with your laptop, tablet or mobile phone.

Pipistrel was established in 1989 as the first private aircraft producer in the former Yugoslavia. Back then, under the totalitarian Yugoslavian regime, it was almost unimaginable for a private person to design, manufacture, or own their own aircraft.

Being a private aircraft producer doesn’t seem like a big deal nowadays, but 30 years ago, offering an alternative to military aviation and army-regulated sports airfields was what really opened flying to the wider public.
