Climb Mt.
Rwenzori with Marlina Morena for just 149,000 Shillings
Uganda is blessed with the Mountains of the Moon, the highest mountain ranges in Africa standing at 5100 meters above sea level. With its permanently snow-covered equatorial peaks, the fabled Mountains of the Moon are blessed with all the world’s five vegetation types as one climbs higher starting with savanna, into forest, into bamboo, into
heather and rapenea and finally into the Alpine zone beautified by everlasting flowers; no wonder that since 1984, the mountain is a UNESCO heritage site. Few countries, if any, can offer snow-capped peaks at the Equator, and such a remarkable range of exotic flora and fauna. In addition to amazing flora and fauna, the mountain harbors 70 species of friendly mammals namely the Angola Colobus Monkey, the black and white colobus monkey, L’Hoest monkey, chimpanzees, forest elephants, hyrax, leopard, yellow backed duiker, golden cat, genet, giant forest hog and bushbuck. Further, the mountains are home to 241 recorded species of birds including 19 endemic species such as the Rwenzori Turaco, the malachite sunbird, the long tailed cuckoo, long eared owl, handsome francolin, cinnamon chested bee-eater, robin, montane boubou, slender-billed starling and the black eagle. From time immemorial, several scholars have tried to find and climb the Mountains. The first modern European sighting of the Rwenzori was by the expedition of Henry Morton Stanley in 1889. On June 7th 1989, the expedition’s military commander, William Grant Stairs, climbed to 3,254 metres (10,676 ft) to become the first known non-African ever to climb the range. The first ascent to the mountain’s peak was made by the Duke of the Abruzzi in 1906. On 17th January 2015, Ugandans and expatriates residing in Uganda will have the once-in a-life opportunity to climb part of the mountain for only 149, 000 Uganda Shillings. Ugandans shall kick start a 6-day hike to the peak Mt.Rwenzori, Africa’s tallest mountain ranges. This is happening after the recently held ATA Conference during which many U.S-based retailers and wholesalers of tours in to Africa committed to sell tours to Uganda. This time round, Ugandans will climb the mountain in the company of Marlina Moreno, a Los-Angeles-based super model that has travelled the world to produce media that promotes amazing people and places through articles, photos and creative video production. Uganda Tourism Board has partnered with Uganda Wild Life Authority to enable persons resident in Uganda to climb the mountain and to have fun while doing so at a highly subsidized fee of only 149,000 Uganda Shillings. This figure includes comfortable transport from Kampala to and from the mountain, secure and spacious accommodation in a tent at the base of the mountain for two days. Each climber shall take home an event T Shirt and certificates. The Honourable of Minister of Tourism will be the chief climber.
