Home of the free because of the brave! 🇺🇸 Forever grateful for the many sacrifices made by our military members and their families. And forever grateful for the special military members in my life, especially the one who will dress up in the same costume as me for Halloween. 😝💕

Our sweet oldest girl, Molly, had to have emergency surgery this week to have a pacemaker put in. 😳 Her little ticker wasn’t beating the way it should, but you would’ve never known by the way she was acting.

We went to the vet for a completely unrelated thing and they found her heart was only beating 40bpm and should be closer to 80. I don’t know how there weren’t more signs, but she was acting just as happy and healthy as she always does.

Molly was our first baby. Cory and I rescued her right after we got married 10 years ago and she’s still got so much life left in her...we didn’t feel like it was her time yet.

She’s recovering well and seems happy with her new heart rate. ❤️ We’re so grateful to have more time with her on this earth! 🙏🏼

Thank you to our local vet, Dr. Jenny Powers, and the team at Yadkin Park Animal Hospital & Dental Clinic and to Dr. Mac and the team @ncstatevetmed for taking such good care of her before/during/after surgery. 💕

Do you like the ocean or the mountains? Or maybe even the desert? Where do you feel most at peace... most at home?
I’m missing these emerald green waters and white sand beaches! 🏖☀️

I didn’t work out Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I had a horrible week last week emotionally, and I drank and ate my way through Virginia Beach this past weekend (so fun, and worth every bit). All of these things could count against me if I let them, but I’m choosing not to let things affect me like that! This life is meant to be LIVED!

Today I got back on track and cooked a good breakfast this morning, got myself back in the gym, and guess what....I hit a huge goal that I’ve had my eye on for a while now. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 My last squat max was 215 and today I hit 225# for 1. And I did NOT want to work out at all.

The bottom line is you have to SHOW UP!! If CrossFit is your thing, cool, yoga, cool, running 👌🏼... whatever it is, show up consistently and you’ll reap the benefits in the long run. 🙌🏼

I’ve been consistently going to CrossFit for almost 2 months now and have loved it. It’s pushing me outside of my box and I’m learning so many new things.

Today, SHOW UP for everything you do. Be there fully and be present and great things will happen. 👍🏼

This weekend’s goal: recharge

I could seriously eat this every day and it took 10 minutes.
1) Sauté chopped veggies of your choice in a little olive oil over medium heat until soft. I used onions, peppers, spinach and leftover roasted sweet potatoes.
2) Whisk your desired number of eggs in a bowl and add salt and pepper to taste
3) Add eggs to the pan with the veggies and scramble until cooked to your liking
4) DEVOUR! (I doused mine in hot sauce, then devoured) 😋
So simple, so filling, so delicious. 👌🏼

I’ve been trying get a one mile walk in with the pups daily! Not only is it good for them, but it’s just an added non-exercise activity bonus for me that adds to my daily calorie burn. 🔥 It May be slow and choppy, due to countless territories being marked and bushes being sniffed 🐶, but it counts!⠀
Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT), the physical movements we make that aren’t planned exercise or sports, can account for a substantial amount of our calorie expenditure throughout the day. Cooking, fidgeting, walking, shopping 🙋🏼‍♀️, standing are all examples of NEAT. ⠀

What These 6 Common Food Cravings Are Trying to Tell You

We all have cravings and indulging in them once in a while is good for the soul! However, sometimes we crave things and indulge too often, which can hinder our results toward our health goals. Meals don’t have to be complicated to be healthy! 🙅🏼‍♀️ I really wanted mango and I’ve been digging plantains lately. Pair it with some egg whites/1 egg and kale and you have a balanced breakfast in less than 15 minutes. 👏🏼

I LOVE sparkling water for so many reasons, and it’s a great tool to use to help you stay on track toward your health goals!
It can help increase your water intake throughout the day, curb a sweet tooth, curb soda cravings, plus it’s just a nice change from plain ole water.
Grab some unsweetened sparkling water (skip the artificial sweeteners, too) and pop one open next time you’re thirsty. 👌🏼

I love meals that take less than 30 minutes! This dinner was amazing and super quick, easy and macro-friendly! 👊🏼
Zoodle some zucchini and sauté on medium heat in a pan. Add some salt/pepper to taste.
In a separate pan sauté your shrimp with a little salt/pepper and garlic powder.
Once the zucchini is almost done add a little pesto and cook for a few more minutes.
Viola! Healthy, easy dinner in 20 minutes or less!

Every year I do the Murph workout on Memorial Day weekend. It’s my way of paying tribute to those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation. This is Cory’s and my 6th year doing it and each year it’s always hard, but always worth it. 💪🏼
The Murph:

100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 Mile Run

And since I couldn’t do the workout Friday with @southernpinescrossfit I had to rep my shirt today! 👏🏼

I bought this amazing bunch of kale from the farmers market for $3 on Saturday morning. 🙌🏼 It was a little wilty feeling since it was so hot outside, so I snipped the ends with kitchen scissors, stuck it in a cup of water and placed it in the fridge. By dinner time it was perky and ready to eat. This morning I did the same thing to keep it fresh and within an hour it’s perked right back up! 👌🏼🥗

Sometimes we get caught up in the physical changes we want for our bodies and don’t give ourselves credit for the behavioral changes that happen.

I’m always quick to remind my clients (and myself) of all the amazing changes that they’re making, even if they can’t “see” them.

These things may not show up on the scale or in the mirror, but they’re just as important as the physical changes we desire. 👏🏼

What shifts do you notice in yourself lately?? Are you drinking more water? Getting better sleep? Eating more vegetables? GREAT! Celebrate those small victories too!

Such a fun last day in Colorado! We hiked the Manitou Incline, grabbed a beer after at the Manitou Brewing Company and saw so much wildlife!

I love when I get to mix fun with being active! The incline is approx. 2,744 steps, a mile distance, an average of 41% incline and 2,000 feet of elevation climb, plus a 3.5 mile trail run back down the mountain. Love that I get to check this one off my list and can’t wait to do it again! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

The Keto Diet
My view on Keto is short ‘n’ to the point…

For most people (99.99%), I do NOT recommend the Ketogenic Diet.

And it has nothing to do with “insulin” or “ketones” or “evil sugar fairies” or anything like that...

Truth is, if someone loses weight following a Keto diet, it’s because they are eating in a calorie deficit.

Plain and simple.

And the calorie deficit truth is the same for any diet...

With Weightwatchers, it’s points.

With Whole30, it’s eliminating high-calorie processed foods.

So why don’t I recommend Keto for most people?


I don’t know about you, but a world without carbs is not a world I wanna live in...

No more bread 🍞? 😢
No more pasta 🍝? 🤧
No more p.. p.. pizza 🍕? 😭

Sure, maybe you could follow a keto diet for a few weeks. Hell, maybe a few months!

But unless you’re ready to commit to never eating carbs again (*cold chills*), it’s just not something worth doing. ⠀
And luckily, when it comes to losing fat, it’s not necessary at all!

You don’t have to cut carbs or carpet bomb sticks of butter in your morning cup ☕️...

I recommend keeping it as simple & flexible:

1. Track your calories (to ensure a deficit)
2. Eat a bit higher protein
3. Focus on whole foods
4. Have “fun” foods in moderation

Oh... and don’t forget to live your life!

If it’s your kids birthday, you better eat a slice of cake 🍰 ⠀
If it’s your sister’s wedding day, have a freaking glass or two (or 3 or 4 🙊) of champagne 🥂🍾 ⠀
And sure, maybe those things aren’t “optimal” for health...

but they’ll make you happy...

and that happiness will help you stay consistent...

and that consistency is what’ll lead to lifelong success 💪❤️
