The girls really made a great showing for Grays Harbor College. The team finished tied for 6th place overall in the nation! For the women, there is only 1 division of collegiate wrestling. To have this group finish this high in the nation against all of these 4 year schools is something very special. I got to witness the passion of all the competitors there, to be the very best. We had 5 wrestlers earn All-American honors. Here is a little about each of them.

Nina Pham placed 7th in the National Tourney earning All-American status. Nina had 23 wrestlers in her bracket.

Kateri Rowell finished 6th earning her first All-American Award. Kateri had 32 wrestlers in her bracket.

Kacie Moorehouse finished in 6th place, becoming a 2 time all-American. Kacie had 30 wrestlers in her bracket.

Desiree Zavala finished in 2nd place. This is her 2nd All-American Honor.
She faced Kayla Miracle for the championship, who became a 4 time National Champion. Desiree did score the first takedown which were the only points scored on Miracle all tournament. Desiree had 27 competitors in her bracket.

Paige Baynes became the National Champion for her 1st place finish. This was her 3rd time being named All-American. She was ranked number 1 going into the tourney and showed why by not allowing any points scored against her in the tourney. After the tourney she was also awarded the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the entire tourney. Pagie had 29 wrestlers in her bracket.

Coach Andy Cook's Women’s Wrestling Program at GHC off to a Strong Start - GraysHarborTalk

Pretty cool write-up on us!

http://www.graysharbortalk.com/2017/01/03/grays-harbor-college-womens-wrestling/

www.graysharbortalk.com Coach Jeff Cook leads the inaugural season of Grays Harbor College Women's Wrestling. The teams first home match is January 11 at the Bishop Center.

[01/04/17]   Good morning everyone,

So far we have 1 student registered in each section of the Wrestling camps. In order for us to hit our breakeven point (cover instructor expenses) we will need to have at least 4 students registered in each section prior to classes starting.

If we do not meet the minimum enrollment by noon on Monday, we will have to cancel them this quarter. Normally we make the decision to cancel courses a week prior to the start date, but we are making an exception this quarter.

Parents can also register students over the phone with me at 360.538.4088 if it is easier for them.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Thanks,

Chelcie

1st Annual New Years Training 16/17

Some team shots....

[12/24/16]   TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
'Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the house
Not a wrestler was stirring
Not a Coach or his spouse

The children were nestled
All snug in their beds
While visions of victories
Danced in their heads

Their singlets were hung
On their doorknobs with care
In hopes that a medal
Would soon join them there

When out on the lawn
There arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed
To see what was the matter

And what to my sleep filled
Eyes did appear?
But a man with a bag
Full of wrestling gear

He wore a striped shirt
A ref he must be
But what was he doing here
Talking to me?

He looked in my eyes
And he said with a smile
I have something to tell you
So sit for a while

He said you're a winner
I've seen your medals all right
But the true "Seasons" about
A baby born on this night

When you're out on the mat
Don't forget who you are
Think of the brave wise men
Who followed the star

If your arms raised in victory
Or you suffer a loss
Remember who died
His arms spread on the cross

He picked up his whistle
And he blew it aloud
And then he was gone
In a blue misty cloud

I wandered inside
Not sure what to do
But deep down inside
I think that I knew

I fell to my knees
I thanked God for the "Season"
It's not just about wrestling
I have now come to reason

I will work out my best
I will still strive to win
I will head lock and cradle
To achieve the big pin

But when the bracket is finished
The mat's rolled away
I will simply be thankful
That I wrestled today

For sometimes our gifts
Are wrapped up with a bow
And sometimes they're simply
In things that we know

So parents and coaches
Please take time in this "Season"
To hug your young wrestlers
And tell them the reason

It is not because
They have lost or they've won
It is because you are proud
Of the job they have done

So I'll turn out the lights
It is late now it seems
Merry Christmas to all
Wrestle well in your dreams
