3 done on this gorgeous morning! Getting our groove back for FOMO training!
We have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Houghton’s Pond Trail Races, which were scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 4th. Although we think it would be feasible to conduct our trail race in a manner that would be safe for runners, volunteers, and other users of the Blue Hills Reservation, road and trail races are not yet allowed in Massachusetts. It is extremely unlikely that this policy will change anytime soon. Massachusetts is now in “Phase 3” of the COVID-19 reopening plan, and races will not be allowed until “Phase 4”, which seems a long way off, given current conditions.
Did my 3 today!!
Hi! My name is Caroline Tocci and I'm the co-founder of the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation. The Foundation was established in 2017 in honor of my cousin, Vanessa Marcotte, who was killed by an act of violence while out on a walk near her family home in Princeton, MA in August 2016. Our mission is to empower women to live boldly and fearlessly. I wanted to reach out to let you know about our Virtual 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 20th, which s a LIVE timed event. Sign up at Runforvanessa.org! Please share with family + friends!
What a beautiful day for a run to help me shake off the stress of the quarantine and my first case of poison ivy I got from doing yard work. Running is my therapy. 🏃🏻‍♀️💪
Hi, friends! If anyone is looking for a unique way to stay motivated with training, I highly recommend the Take Back 2020 Challenge. This virtual event kicks off April 15, and there are 75 challenge options to choose from to pursue your fitness and wellness goals. Experts in running, yoga, and triathlon will also be sharing resources to get us through the challenges. One of our running experts has coached multiple 2:16 marathoners, and he will be showing us a strength routine using laundry detergent, towels, kitchen chairs, and toilet paper. 😁 You have to complete a bingo card of challenges to earn your medal, and there will be opportunities to win raffle prizes. To learn more, visit bitly.com/takeback2020 or the page facebook.com/takeback2020challenge. Stay safe, everyone! Let’s keep raising each other up.
Coronavirus virtual programs: In an attempt to maintain some form of business at www.LunchTimeRunner.com , I have decided to offer some virtual coaching options for runners. All abilities and experiences welcome. I will be offering virtual foot and gait analysis w/ shoe Brand & Model recommendationsand running form evaluations. These will be incredibly discounted offerings from what I would usually charge. I am doing this now because I know many runners are looking to purchase shoes during the COVID19 but cannot get their foot or gait evaluated like they usually would when being fitted for the right running shoe for their foot type and gait. Now may be a good time to have your running form evaluated too. If you never have, it just may make you a better runner after COVID19 has passed. What qualifies me to do this? I have a BS in Environmental Chemistry (concentration in Water Chemistry) a Masters Degree in Education (concentration in A&P science), I am a USATF certified running coach and official and I have over 35 years of racing, coaching and officiating experience at ALL levels with exceptional successes. I have worked in the running retail and shoe manufacturing industries. I have worked with countless physical therapists, personal trainers, and medical professionals over the years when it comes to identifying form related issues and foot types. I have coached several thousand runners and athletes over the last 27 years. It is what I do full-time. If you are interested, please contact me via email. [email protected] and I will guide you through the payment process for this service and how to take and send me videos of you running. Prices for these services are as follows: MASSIVE DISCOUNTS!!!! regular price for in person sessions range from $95-$160. Chat w/ the Coach - FREE for up to 1 hour * requires appointment via Skype for individuals, via Zoom for groups * ask me my advice on your personal running Foot and gait analysis - $10 per video * this requires you sending me a video of your gait. I will easily instruct you how. It’s easy for you to do. * I send you back a video from my analysis software that I can write/draw on and also includes my audio explaining your foot type and gait back to you and shoe recommendation. Running Form Analysis - $25 per video * this requires you sending me a video of your gait. I will easily instruct you how. It’s easy for you to do. * I send you back a video from my analysis software that I can write/draw on and also includes my audio explaining your foot type and gait back to you.
Cold, and very windy 5 mile run this morning to complete the race distances I would have in VA. Completed 8k today & Half Marathon yesterday with Greg O'Connor while practicing social distancing. #StayingStrong #💪

[03/15/20]   THANK YOU to all our CRR members that work in the medical field, are first responders, are giving blood, are on the front lines fighting COVID-19 or are working to keep our society functioning as close to normal as possible.

Colonials are a strong, selfless and supportive group. Please continue helping your neighbors, communities and elders in any way you can. Stay safe and lead by example.

Saturday March 28th is the last Boston Marathon Course training run for 2020…this is the long one!!! We need 12 volunteers to man 6 water stops, and 2 drivers for vans. Water stop volunteers will meet up the week before to get supplies and go over assignments. Logistics for van drivers to be sent once all confirmed. If you have any questions please contact Greg Buckley or Jenn Rose.

***UPDATE; we have 6 volunteers signed up for this day. Thank you all for your help. Greg will be in touch with the volunteers soon to discuss logistics***
Volunteers needed on Saturday, March 14 for a Boston Marathon Course training run. We have 3 water stops and could use 6 people to cover the stops. Volunteers will meet at 745am at the Wellesley Public Library, with the runners starting at 8am and getting around 18 miles in (9 out and back). Time commitment for volunteers expected to be around 4 hours. If you have any questions please contact Greg Buckley or Jenn Rose.

[02/25/20]   Good morning, would someone be willing to stock the two water stops for Saturday's Woodsdale Training Run? Thanks!

[02/12/20]   Blue Hills Trail Races - Registration Is Now Open (and Filling Fast!)

Registration is now open for the 15th Annual Blue Hills Trail Races, in the DCR Blue Hills Reservation. The Races will be held on Sunday, April 26 at 9 AM, starting and finishing on the north side of the Blue Hills Trailside Museum, on Route 138 in Milton. The races are directed and sponsored by Colonial Road Runners.

Once again, there will be two events: the moderately challenging FOX TROT (10 miles) and the easier BUNNY HOP (3 miles). The races will follow the same routes as in 2019, entirely within the Great Blue Hill Section of the Reservation.

We are keeping the “low frills, low cost” approach that many trail runners prefer. We do not provide T-shirts or trophies…but we DO provide a well-marked course staffed by many volunteers, several water stops, computerized timing, and post-race refreshments (soda, juice, bananas, cookies, chips, pretzels, etc.). Overall winners in each race receive Marathon Sports gift certificates and loaves of Beth’s home-baked banana bread, while age-group winners get packages of her chocolate-chip cookies.

The registration fee is just $12. Additional donations are greatly appreciated. All race profits are donated to the Trailside Museum (operated by the Massachusetts Audubon Society), in support of its nature-education programs for children.

As a condition of our event permit from the Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Blue Hills Trail Races are limited to a total of 250 entrants. As of February 10th, we have reached 50% of the limit, just one week after opening registration! Please register as soon as possible, so that you do not miss out!

To register online, go to: https://runsignup.com/bluehills

For a paper mail-in application, contact me at [email protected] and I will email the application to you.

Happy trails,

[02/09/20]   Post Paddy Kelly 5 Mile Road Race comments from your Race Director Dan Inglis.

A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to the following:

1. Our amazing volunteers without whom we would not have a successful race. The volunteers covered Overall Race Management, Photography, Music/Announcements, Equipment, Parking, Course Set Up/Directions, Split Timing, Packet Pick-Up, Same-Day Registration, Food, Lead/Sweeper vehicle, Finish Water Stop and Race Timing. We also had the Brockton High School Cross Country Track and Field team for our mid race water stop.

Our volunteers also managed the Oak Street intersection when the Brockton Police were not there. Way to step up to solve a problem without complaining.

2. To all the runners (300+) who came out and completed the Paddy Kelly Race today. Way to RUN!

3. Harry's Bar and Grill for an excellent venue both before and after the race.

4. Brockton Parks and Recreation for maintaining D.W. Field Park.

5. To area businesses for their generous raffle items and for parking privileges day of race.

6. To Barbara Inglis for keeping me cool, calm, collected and organized over the last few weeks.

7. To the Brockton and Avon Police who ensure we have a traffic free race.

THANK YOU ALL and see you next year. Our 2021 Paddy Kelly Road Race will be held on February 14th (Valentines Day - Bring a loved one to run with you) under the leadership of Greg O'Connor.

Fantastic turnout for CRR’s final Grand Prix race 5 Miles Home, proudly supporting Homes For Our Troops. To all who have served our country (past, present and future), we Thank You for your service and sacrifice.

October Grand Prix ✅ Congrats to all of the runners. Strong work out in the rain. And now for the fun!

[09/17/19]   Running in the dark these days? Take the following precautions to stay safe during your run.

Maximize reflective gear, which increases the distance from which drivers can see you to 500 feet. If you wear bright, neon or white clothing, drivers can spot you from only 180 feet. (For a car moving at 40 mph, it takes more than 180 feet to come to a stop.)

Think low. Most headlights are angled slightly down, so lighting the lower leg is important. Try reflective socks or shoelaces, and add reflective tape to shoes.

Accentuate the moving parts. Make sure you have reflective gear on feet, ankles and wrists, which move the most during your stride.

Be bright and flashy: Handheld flashlights or headlamps serve dual purposes, lighting your way and alerting drivers to your presence. Studies show flashing lights are more eye-catching than solid lights.

Use reflective gear and lighting to help you be seen and remain safe.

[08/28/19]   The Brockton Fun Run has been cancelled.

The After Party at Harry's is still a GO at 7:30. Please come and enjoy some pizza and soft drinks with your fellow runners. Cash Bar is available.

These are always difficult decisions but we take the safety of runners and volunteers seriously. Given the staggered start of the handicap race we would have had runners on the course and runners that had not even started to run when the lightning is forecast in Brockton.

Stay dry and stop by Harry's for some fun.

[08/28/19]   Brockton Fun Run - Status update due to weather forecast.

We are watching the weather very closely and may have to cancel the run due to lightning in the Brockton area. If the run has to be cancelled, the After Party at Harry's Westgate Pub & Grill is still a GO at 7:30 PM. If you were planning to run or volunteer we hope you'll still join us for the after party if the run has to be cancelled.

Thanks and see you tonight.
