Lythrum Farm

Lythrum Farm is located in Acton MA and you can check us out on the web at

Lythrum Farm is a 12-stall family owned horse farm located in Acton MA. Sara Carlisle is the head trainer, and is a USDF Bronze and Silver Medalist, and halfway to her Gold. Sara teaches dressage on Lythrum Farm's wide array of lesson horses, and our farm prides itself on its personal atmosphere and individualized lesson plans. Lythrum Farm is adjacent to 300 acres of conservation land and trails, and has a state of the art, Olympic sized indoor arena with GGT footing. Our horses enjoy all day turnout, and in the summer they have the option of spending half the day on lush grass paddocks.

Pone-pone Supreme likes to hold pone-pone Jr’s tail in his mouth and walk around like this. This is the fourth horse he has done this with over the years. 🥰

Adult Amateur Dressage Shame: The School Master

This is such a wonderful description of the journey that is Dressage- it should be required reading for anyone starting out in our sport! Dressage tends to attract a certain personality type. Of course this is a generalization but I am ignoring that fact because it does not suit my overall point. The bulk of dressage riders tend to b…

Taking pictures of halter tag makes it look a lot more dramatic than it is 😂

This is what happens every time I give Wilbur new hay bedding ❤️

Rubilee SPF and Wilbur are pretty cute 💕

The long awaited sequel of Wilbur and Marlene!
I was so happy to see how many people were as excited about my super senior rescue pig Wilbur’s new friendship with a frog we named Marlene. After phoning a friend (aka asking Facebook) about what to do with a semi domesticated frog in the winter, Marlene seems to be implementing a very bizarre “phase out” of Wilbur. Instead of being a constant presence in Wilbur’s stall Marlene now is there pretty much ever other day. I am hoping she is using her travel time to scout out a good pond or place to hibernate in.
Meanwhile we are winterizing Wilbur’s stall and just added a new batch of exploded hay bales that become unusable mounds of fluff in our hay loft, but are perfect bedding for Wilbur! He also loves when his horse friends destroy their expensive winter blankets beyond fixing so he can have them for his winter cuddles.

Ok guys- here is a close up picture of Marlene from yesterday morning. Everyone cast your votes for:
1. What breed of frog she is (I think breed is the right term? After a lifetime as an equestrian though that’s what I am going with...)
2. If Marlene is in fact a lady frog.

Wilbur and Marlene say Good Morning!

My story about Wilbur and Marlene got a lot more reach than I would have ever imagined! So for all of Wilbur’s new fans, he is a potbelly pig mix that we adopted from the @mspcanevinsfarm last year. Because he was 15 years old when he was at the shelter no one wanted to adopt him, so he was there for a year before I convinced my family to let us adopt him so he would have a loving home for his remaining time on earth, and now we can’t imagine life without him 💕💕💕

Whenever we get hay deliveries we give the leftover hay fluff to Wilbur, and he immediately dives into it like a small child in a leaf pile 💕

Wilbur loves standing in front of the big fan on hot days 💕 yesterday he let me oil his whole body and he shed out a huge patch of hair on his neck, so now he looks like a proper old gentleman with some kind of comb-over.

Happy Birthday America from Wilbur and his homemade popsicle! We hope everyone is staying cool out there, and have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

Amber is doing such a great job bring our new lesson horse Sandor back into shape! Thank you so much Tayla Davis for entrusting is with your boy 💕

I love spring but boy do I hate the shedding season that accompanies it...

We got a special delivery today- we’re so excited to welcome Sandy into our lesson program! Sandy is a 18 year old Dutch Warmblood who Is being leased to us by the wonderful Tayla Davis. Thank you so much for entrusting us with your boy 💕

Mr. Spock is such a wackadoodle that he makes for excellent photographs.

Mr. Spock regrets nothing.

I had such an amazing ride on the world’s best 3 year old today 💕

Indoor arenas aren’t just for riding horses, they are also excellent parking garages for snow days 😁

Horse Nation

Our own 33 year old wonder-pony Hartley made the cut for muddiest horse! He has been training for this day his whole life and we are all very proud 🎉

We had so many muddy horses show up for this week’s photo challenge that we had to split them into two rounds. Here are a few muddy buddies for your commiserating pleasure -- the final round will run later today!

The 3+ inches of precipitation we got since Friday has turned our paddocks into soup and made us keep the horses in. Hartley and Knight were very happy to blow off some steam in their adventure-fun-time yesterday. Side note, Hartley (the white pony) is 33 years old!

This little guy makes me so ridiculously happy 💕 #adoptaseniorpet MSPCA at Nevins Farm

I am so excited that my baby girl Rubilee made the cover of the NEDA Tip! 🎉🎈🎉 I am also incredibly proud of how our junior riders Lara and Meredith Long did this season!

Mr. Spock has reached a new level of pampered (yes, that is a space heater pointed at him).

This is Banjo’s “my blanket is itchy” dance. Who else’s farm dog is over this winter?

Cory and Rubilee hope everyone is having a safe and warm snow-pocalypse! The ponies are all tucked in for the night and just finished their warm bran mash 💕

The horses of Lythrum were being very disagreeable about their photo shoot tonight, so Falkor and Cory would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Lara and Duke are officially en route to Florida! I am so proud of how much this pair has progressed, and we all can’t wait for updates about their time at the WIT program in Wellington!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone from all the animals at Lythrum Farm 💕

Mr. Spock regrets nothing.

No one enjoyed their bran mash more than Banjo 💕

Knight and Hartley self choreographed a Pas de Duex this morning 😂

Falkor and Samson are twinsies 💕

Cory and Luna wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! Today Cory is thankful for his fancy wellies from Sox For Horses to keep his legs and Sox nice and dry and keep him looking pretty stylin at the same time 🤓

Livi and Ginger did amazing in their lesson tonight! This pretty little redhead is still available for adoption from the MSPCA at Nevins Farm!

We had such a great time at the NEDA awards banquet last night! I am so proud of how my student Lara did, winning Champion for year end awards not only at Fourth level with a 67.4%, but also at PSG with a 63.7%!! Meredith Long was greatly missed but I am equally proud of this new Silver medalist for winning awards at four different levels!! Rubilee also came in third place for 3 year old Fillies with a 78.4 % 😊

We’re all safely back from our time at USDF Dressage Finals in Kentucky! I am so proud of how my amazing trainer Adam Cropper did with Christine O’Hara’s horse Leo 💕

For all of you out there contemplating horse ownership, here is a photo that Katie Crawford sent me this morning at turn out of Falkor. Last night Falkor removed his sheet and then proceeded to shred it and pee all over it. He regrets nothing.

I love all my show photos from NEDA Fall!

Happy Halloween from all the animals at Lythrum Farm 🎃

Hartley is so happy to finally be able to be tack walked by his favorite child 💕

Michelle and Cory's matching game was on point last night! Cory wasn't too sure about our photo shoot though...

Rubilee is the prettiest princess of them all 💕

I retract my previous statement about grey horses, black horses are equally as gross.
