Form Check Friday:

Today we’re going over the Trunk Rotation, also known as a Crossbody AntiRotation and a few progressions.

Tune in and make sure you’re doing these properly to develop a strong core for a resilient body!

Food For Thought Thursday:

Put good in, get good out!

Achieving anything of value should require a little bit of struggle. How else would we learn to appreciate what we’ve accomplished and how far we’ve come?

Embrace adversity and celebrate your victories but always be ready to get back to work!

Form Check Friday:

The Romanian Deadlift. On paper it’s simple, executing properly can sometimes be a little tricky. This is a great exercise that gets the whole body involved, specifically the posterior chain and core. This will be very beneficial for postural stability and alleviating low back pain.

Check it out!

Need I say more?

Motivation Monday:

Whether that is getting yourself to the gym on a rainy day.

Whether that is trying a new healthy food or meal.

Whether that is drinking those extra glasses of water to ensure you were hydrated throughout your day.

Whether that was opting to go to bed before starting that next episode on Netflix to make sure you are rested for tomorrow.

What we do today will be reflected tomorrow. Make the right choices!

Form Check Friday:

Today we took a look at the three different Lat Pulldown options we see while using the SmarTrainer here at Koko.

Tune in and see if you pick up any helpful cues to help you get more out of this movement while you’re at the club.

Food is Medicine!

Not sure if this study also mentioned that berries are delicious, but chalk that up on the list of benefits mentioned above too.

Put some serious thought into what you’re putting into your body.

HumpDay HealthTip:

“KoKo Fit Club of Acton, this is FitCoach Hunter.”

“Hi, I’m wondering what the cost of the gym is.”

“Surely. Do you care to hear anything about what we offer here?”

“No.”

“Got it.”

These conversations worry me. Not because this person may not end up joining one of our clubs and experience the life changing benefits that Koko has to offer. I worry that someone will use this to justify not joining anywhere when they need it and suffer he consequences because they won’t know what to do at a cut price gym.

When someone is fixated on the expense of a gym membership and not the value of what they are getting in return, they have already made up their mind.

When you join here you get a structured, custom plan, complimented with expert coaching to guide you to the best shape of your life. Not just access to equipment. When compared to personal training, which can get very pricey very quickly, the bang for your buck with our program is unbelievable.

If that’s all someone needs is equipment and space and it works for them, all power to them, tear it up!

If someone needs or wants the structure and coaching but are turning it down because of price alone, they’ll make up for it and more in hospital bills down the line because of it learning how to properly strengthen and train the body to make it more resilient.

Food For Thought Friday:

Say whaaaaaat?

All studies have pretty much agreed it’s all about caloric balance and being in a slight deficit to ensure weight loss.

What this specific one is saying is that by avoiding processed garbage and eating foods found directly from nature, we can consume more food if we’re eating the good stuff because the amount of calories packed in a serving is lower.

So you can feel fuller for longer because of eating a satisfying volume of food that may have put you well into a caloric surplus had it been with the more dense likely processed option.

Fit Tip Friday:

Do your exercises extraordinarily well. Period. There is no point in trying to lift heavy if you are jeopardizing form.

I am by no means saying developing your strength is not important. What I am saying is the body actually gets stronger when you task it the way it’s supposed to by putting yourself in the proper positions.

Motivation Monday:

This one’s pretty straight to the point. If you’re not working hard enough, you will not see the changes you want to see happen.

If you’re not seeing the changes you want to see it could be down to a couple things.

If it’s effort related, it’s time kick it up a notch!

If it comes down to not knowing what to do in the gym or getting stuck in a routine, look no further, our Smartraining System can help with that.

If you’re concerned about a past injury or getting injured, talk to one of our FitCoaches as we can work around almost anything to get you through an efficient and effective workout while keeping you pain free.

Hump Day Health Tip:

Quit looking to medicine to fix all your problems, look at your nutrition!

While we are not doctors over here and obviously modern medicine is something we should be incredibly thankful for and should not be taken for granted, at times it is overused and overprescribed.

So many of your health needs can be found in its natural state in the foods we eat! So before reaching for the pill bottle, know what you’re putting in your body and do your research!

Whatever you’re about to eat, ask yourself: “What purpose will this serve, how will this benefit me?” Versus “Ooh I bet that tastes awesome, who cares what’s in it!”

Trainer Tip Tuesday:

Hands down one of my favorite cues we use in the club when coaching up a member whether they are brand new to the system or a KoKo Veteran. This is a big one, very important and very effective.

When doing weight training or cardio training, the name of the game is tension in all the right places to stabilize everything properly to get the most out of that given movement or modality.

There is no magical, circus act exercise that gives us a strong core. Its less about what we’re doing and more about how we’re doing something. It’s about how we approach each exercise or daily task of living.

So, whatever movement you are doing tighten up the mid section by drawing your belly button to your spine and squeezing your abs, i.e. bracing as if someone is about to give you a little jab in the belly.

That maneuver creates stabilization throughout the core that will keep your core strong and back safe. Think of it as an airbag for your spine.

Deadlifting? BRACE.

Bicep Curls? BRACE.

Cruising on the elliptical? BRACE.

Walking through grocery story with basket in one hand or carrying your kid around? BRACE.

In the car on the way to the gym? BRACE.

You get the idea...

Food for Thought Friday:

The benefits we earn from our hard work in the gym transcends way beyond just feeling and looking better.

We are training so that we can PERFORM.

In modern society we have grown to become very comfortable in terms of not experiencing as many physical challenges in our day to day tasks.

But what if they do present themselves? Ask yourself, can you perform the task at hand?

Whether that is shoveling the driveway because the plow guy is out of town and you really need to go somewhere, can you perform?

Maybe your friend or kid needs help moving heavy awkward furniture, can you perform?

Perhaps you’re on a hike and you and your hiking partners accidentally go off the trail and are lost and require a much longer hike back to safety, can you perform? Or someone gets hurt and needs help getting back to camp, can you perform?

The gym teaches us out to push our bodies in specific ways so that out in the world we can handle whatever life throws our way.

So next time you think about the important end of training, think about this little chat we had.

Motivation Monday. It’s the start of a new week. You’ve got goals you want to reach, you want to achieve excellence or at the very least want to be better than the individual in the mirror was yesterday.

Regardless, if you want to reach those goals it’s going to take consistency above all else. Good things take time. Learn to enjoy the process so you can appreciate the progress.

While so much has changed not much has at all. These old Greek guys had humans pretty figured out way back when.

Stay #kokostrong and start your week with a workout, don’t let Monday win!

The 5 Second Rule.

No not when you drop your food on the ground and have 5 seconds to grab it and eat it before it’s covered in germs.

If it takes you longer than 5 seconds to figure it where your food came from, that’s a problem. The foods we eat should come in their purest form, not messed with by food companies. We should be looking for foods that come as close to how it’s found in nature as possible

If there’s a paragraph of words you can’t pronounce for the ingredients list, put it back. If it has a shelf life longer than a week or two, it’s probably filled with chemicals and additives to help it do so, probably not great for you.

Food is medicine. Many health problems can be solved with a proper and well balanced diet that works for you to ensure you are meeting all your nutritional needs in terms of macro & micro-nutrients and vitamins & minerals. Pay attention to what you’re putting into your body.

Simple works. So don't overcomplicate things.

As yourself:

What can I do today that will make me a better human tomorrow?

Even through the holidays the answer does not change. A little strength work, a little cardio training, making good food choices, drinking more water, and sleeping.

The holidays can be a stressful time, don't overwhelm yourself by piling up all your tasks into this insurmountable pile and letting your goals slip by the wayside.

Break it down. One. Task. At. A. Time.

Start with setting aside a little "me" time. Go to Koko, get your 30 minute Strength Session in and 15 minute Cardio Session in.

Bam! You are now revitalized. The body is invigorated. The mind is clear. You are ready for whatever the holiday season is ready to throw at you and you can enjoy yourself that much more.

Don't tweak your neck! Looking backwards has a tendency to do that.

So eyes forward and march onward towards your goals, whatever they may be!
