Hello all, wishing all to stay healthy. To anyone who’s interested in “distant” distance running cardio, feel free to msg me. Roads are pretty bare after 5pm and safe to get out for a run. If you’re interested, I’ll run with any of you (keeping safe distance) and offer any training guidance if asked. If you’d like to run on your own and not sure of your ability, I will help in providing a training plan based on your running fitness level. I normally hit the road at 6AM or 6PM. Very safe right now due to low traffic. Either from the gym or my house (Acushnet). If you’re interested, msg me.

Tonight was a very productive night at CrossFit. First, we had a little group intervention with Amanda to discuss her “problem”. After talking it through we found that the root cause was Dave! Next there was a brief tax seminar that was conducted by a few of the members on whether it’s best to file married separately or married jointly . Lastly, some of the members were nice enough to share some of their nocturnal sleeping habits when their partners are not around. Oh.......we exercised a little bit to 💪👍 #wccfbeastiesrock

Hey everyone, I just wanted to take a few minutes to fill you all in on my coming departure as one of your coaches at WCCF. This decision was not an easy one to make but after weighing out the pros and cons over the last few months I've come to realize that it is time for me to go in a new direction. My focus over the last year has been split between working with the athletes at school and the athletes at WCCF. I feel like I am only giving half of my my best to 2 different groups, when they both deserve my all. I love working with you all, but when it comes down to it, these kids need all the positive motivation they can get at this important stage of their lives. So, I will be taking what I've learned to from all of you and passing that on to them. This is not a good bye and I will still be in the New Bedford/Dartmouth area for at least another year, so I will be dropping in from time to time. With all that said, keep being the group of healthy bad asses you have been and drive on! I'll be there on Friday rocking out my last classes!

We have plenty of space for regular sized classes while keeping social distancing guidelines. Each workout station has room for all the equipment you’ll need for the day’s workout.

0:20 Downward Facing Dog
0:15 Kneeling Heel to Butt
10 Shoulder Taps

These movements are all great for self-care and will get you feeling alert and energized to start your day!

This quote struck me as I started studying the Precision Nutrition L1 Certification yesterday.

It’s a simple idea, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to accomplish. It goes back to the importance of habits, which we’ve discussed before. Many of us have big lofty goals, whether it’s for our Health and Fitness or some other aspect of our ives. But we have to bring ourselves back to where we are currently. And what is that first action, the first step on our journey?

The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step, right? Sounds cheesy, but someone who has achieved something amazing will say that it was all these tiny actions, their habits, which brought them to where they are today.

Give yourself just 5 minutes doing something different today.

Why you should get in some more low intensity movement!

We’re stuck at home more than ever before. We need to balance that by moving multiple times a day. And the majority of that movement should be relatively low intensity.

Benefits of Low Intensity Aerobic Exercise

Today’s WCFit at Home Metcon:

AMRAP 3
20 No-Pushup Burpee
10 SA Clean + Lunge
10 Pike Pushup / 5 sHSPU
Rest 2:00 x4

These AMRAPs are Aerobic Intervals, meaning you should NOT go all out during the first 3 minutes.

When we do Aerobic Intervals we are always looking for repeatable efforts. That means your aim should be the same number of reps for each of the four AMRAPs.

The only equipment needed is a single DB or KB. And if you don’t have either of those, use an odd object like a small backpack loaded up.

We’re in the midst of a global respiratory pandemic. Understanding how your respiratory system works is one of the most important investments that you can make in your health and the health of your family.

Why Nasal Breathing is Key:
~
Breathing is survival priority number one. It keeps us alive. The system built for this purpose (your respiratory system) is beautifully designed. Your nose is responsible for the process of taking in air, filtering it, and drawing it into the lungs.
~
It is when we bypass this mechanism and breathe through our mouths-which are part of our digestive system-that our health is compromised.
~
Nasal breathing promotes increased lung volume and lung health. It results in 10-20% more oxygen uptake. It helps to prevent colds, flu, allergic reactions, and irritable coughing. It also reduces the risk of anxiety and panic disorders.
~
Mouth breathing allows unfiltered and poorly humidified air into the lungs. It increases the risk of contracting an airborne illness. It also leads to fatigue, breathlessness, and a higher likelihood of suffering from anxiety and panic disorders.
~
This information has always been critical to our health, fitness, and performance. Today-as the death toll from SARS CoV-2 rises-it may be critical to our survival.

WHY LATERAL MOVEMENT MATTERS

Our members are doing a fair amount of Lateral Movement in today WCFit at Home Workout. Both slow and controlled and dynamic lateral movement.

Why is that important?

Most of our day and most CrossFit movements occur in the Sagittal Plane: think of squats and deadlifts and presses and pushups, etc.

But there are two other planes of motion that we can and should train regularly in the pursuit of “functional fitness.”

These are the Frontal Plane and the Transverse Plane. Lateral Movement takes place in the Frontal Plane.

When we only train in the Sagittal plane, sometimes we start to develop nagging aches and pains that sometimes become chronic when ignored. These are brought about often from an overtraining in the Sagittal plane and a resultant imbalance in your muscles and joints.

Moving Laterally will strengthen and mobilize your hips and shoulders in ways that are being missed by only training in the Sagittal plane.

Today’s Workout has Cossack Squats (the side lunges) and Lateral Hops. Both of these movements are working your Hips, Knees and Ankles in ways they may not be used to. And you will benefit from them!

You will continue to work with a Coach One on One during our Fundamentals of Fitness program, where you will learn all of the functional movements we perform in the gym. At the end of Fundamentals, you and your Coach will sit down to discuss the best Coach for Life Membership option for you!
