Barnsley Resort

Offering the pleasures and pursuits of a fine Southern estate: exceptional cuisine, fine golf, relaxing spa, horseback riding, sporting pursuits & more.

Just an hour from Atlanta and Chattanooga lies a historic estate that's undeniably Georgia. Behind Barnsley Resort's storybook setting is a true story filled with as many twists and turns as a work of fiction. The original manor, called Woodlands, was an estate built by a man—Godfrey Barnsley—for the love of his life, his wife Julia.Today, Barnsley Resort offers the pleasures and pursuits of a fine Southern estate: exceptional cuisine, fine golf, relaxing spa, excellent horseback riding and nature exploration. Encompassing 3,300 acres, the historic Barnsley Gardens offers a unique experience.

When it's time to find some peace and quiet, take a few tips about connecting with nature from the experts at The Spa at Barnsley Resort.

"Sitting outside or taking a walk can reset your inner calm. Take in the sunlight on the leaves. Listen to the wind. Take a moment to take in the details and sights you see around you. Research shows that time in green space has immediate health benefits such as reducing blood pressure and slowing the pulse rates as well as long-term benefits if enjoyed regularly," Natalie R., Spa Coordinator

Hospitality friends, we are in this together. During this unprecedented time for all of us, which also includes our temporary resort closure, the billboard we planned earlier this year no longer felt relevant to air throughout the month of March. Rather than pulling this down, we reached out to our friends with Atlanta Eats to assist us with updating a message of support for travel, hardworking service industry professionals and our friends in the hospitality industry. Thank you to Stephen Shapiro (Steak) and the entire BreadnButter team for partnering with us to create this update so quickly.

We sincerely hope everyone is practicing safe social distancing and finding ways to support their communities during these challenging times. We look forward to welcoming our guests, colleagues and Members back to our resort as soon as possible..

At Barnsley Resort, we take joy in offering a peaceful getaway for our guests, a challenging yet rewarding workplace for our colleagues, and being a trusted part of our Members’ weekly routines.

Therefore, it is with a very heavy heart that we inform you that our resort will close temporarily effective today, March 22, 2020 out of an abundance of caution for our guests, Members and colleagues related to Covid-19. This includes overnight accommodations, restaurants, spa, retail and most resort activities including access to the gardens and Manor House Ruins. Golf is closed temporarily effective Saturday, April 4, 2020.

This was an extremely difficult decision to make. However, when using our core values as our guide it becomes evident that the priority must be placed upon health and safety following the guidelines issued by the CDC as well as local, state and national authorities.

This is the most challenging time we have seen in the travel industry, and we appreciate your loyalty and following. During this time, we will continue to use this space to share some of our favorite images, ways to celebrate spring’s seasonal rebirth and plan for the future with hope and optimism. We might even share some simple ways you can bring Barnsley Resort into your own home. It is our hope that these positive posts will provide you with a brief virtual respite from the news of the day until a time that we can welcome you once again.

It’s the first day of Spring, a season of new beginnings and a perfect time to set an intention for the season to come.

During stressful times, it's comforting to find ways to pause and relax wherever you may be. We've gathered some tips from the experts at The Spa at Barnsley Resort, and look forward to sharing those with you in the coming days.

One of our favorite tips from Natalie in The Spa is to incorporate the sounds of nature into your day. Sounds such as rain, wind, thunderstorms and waves can create a calming tone for your environment. Keep the volume soft, and these sounds will move to the background and destress you while you focus on other things.

It’s so easy being green at Barnsley Resort! We’re looking ahead to months when our Fazio Course and greens will be ready for action.
