Great work Andy , skiing is all about FUN and hard work
After 16 years on the U.S. Ski Team, Andy Newell is venturing in a new direction, but he's not calling it quits.
"I’m more just looking to get back to a more simple training and racing routine where I can come up with my own schedule and plans and just remember what it’s like to really enjoy ski racing and doing the ski races that I want to do.”
Lots of volunteers to bring a great thing together for the past 10 years
In March of 2008 a small handful of folks met at the Firehouse Cafe in Adams to discuss the idea of holding a 75th Anniversary Race on the Thunderbolt in 2010. It was supposed to be a one time thing. Ten years later that "one time thing" has turned into 4 races, two websites, a museum, national magazine articles, a Mt. Greylock signage project, the Thunderbolt Ski Patrol, Thunderfest, and a 501(c)3 club called the Thunderbolt Ski Runners. Our name pays homage to two of the big clubs back in the day....the Thunderbolt Ski Club and the Ski Runners of Adams. No mater what we have gotten ourselves involved in as we write our own history on the 'Bolt, we have always tried to honor the unique legacy of the Thunderbolt Ski Trail and those veteran skiers who made it famous. Not sure what our next decade will hold, but this Nor-easter today sure is a good way to start it off! Thanks for your support! See you on the 'Bolt!
