If you ever wondered what kind of integrity and commitment the young men and Coaches on this football team have to the community, read this article from the Jackson Sun and you will know what I've always known!!
A football team clears a path through debris!
The Adamsville High School football team would normally spend the week before a big game practicing, but after the storm hit, they volunteered their time from morning until dusk to clear debris from neighbor's homes.
"They'll remember this as much as they remember football," Adamsville Coach Brandon Gray said Monday over the din of chainsaws as the team dismantled a fallen tree off of Blanton Road. "It's good for them. It's good for people to see them out working. This community really supports our football team, so we really try to support our community."
The team started clearing debris Saturday afternoon. Gray estimates they cleared yards for about a dozen homes since then. On Tuesday, they took a break from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for football practice. Then they returned to work.
Tucker Johnson, one of the team's captains, worked alongside the others despite the cast on his foot. He'd taken some safety precautions, though: "I've got two trash bags and about $3 of duct tape on it," he joked.
The hard work is worth it, Johnson said.
"It just shows how our community unifies together when something happens, and just how we've got each other's back," he explained.
As the daylight faded Monday, Gray called out to the team, "This is the fourth quarter, boys!" They continued slicing through the trunk and hauling branches, shouting "Ballgame!" as they finished the job, for now.
