Look upon all of nature's creations with the knowledge that it is all an illusion... Not to detract from it's beauty, but so that you can enjoy it even more by no longer fearing it.

After a month of being couped up while working on the van with my brother, I'm thrilled to be back out in nature and putting all that work to use 😁

And on a side note, I named my van "Ash" before I left and even though most people may not get the pun (see the 3rd picture), it makes me smile every time I see the stickers before all "Ram" logos on the van 😂

Can you appreciate and allow something as simple as just sitting quietly to bombard you with unfelt sensations?

They're always there, but the more you're doing the easier it is to distract yourself from it. That is what makes meditation challenging - you don't get to distract yourself from what you are subconsciously avoiding.

Once you let it happen and SURRENDER to those uncomfortable sensations, then you can begin to find the truth. The truth that what you were hiding from while looking for bliss was actually the true source of the bliss you were searching for all along.

Aiming to spend more and more of my day in a mental place like an infant trying to figure out what this life is all about and how to operate this body suit in new ways.

Following set systems or techniques has always felt very limiting and unnatural to me, but it's taken a long time to develop and work toward a more intuitive approach.
.
You can't skip steps in learning to move, meditate, or master any other practice. Many teachers (I've frequently been guilty of this as well) often think they've figured out the "secret" to what they do and try to force that upon their students.
.
If your meditations become serene, it doesn't mean you can teach everyone else to start at that step. Their next step might be to witness their own internal insanity before they can fully understand and appreciate the later steps. You just can't skip the dig and go straight to the treasure.
.
The truth is that every student, assuming they have the drive and will, just needs to be exposed to the natural course of the process and pass each milestone for themselves.
.
My biggest goal as a teacher is to become a true process facilitator to help people have more of their own light bulb moments rather than being limited by second hand epiphanies.
.
Rather than being the guy with the answers, I hope to become the guy who helps people find the right questions. Then, they get to EXPERIENCE the answer for themselves.

-- CAN YOU BE SIMULTANEOUSLY UNCOMFORTABLE AND RELAXED? --

COMFORT is about the difficulty of the situation you find yourself in. RELAXATION is about your level of mental resistance to your current situation.

In other words, comfort is about your challenges, and relaxation is about your responses. So, to be uncomfortable AND relaxed would mean that you are facing a challenge that stretches your limits while still keeping calm and not fighting against that situation.
*
If you're uncomfortable, but NOT relaxed, you will be creating mental and physical tension, straining so hard that you can't stay loose, and you will be so inefficient that you'll have to apply far more force (physical or MENTAL) than necessary to complete your task.
*
If you're comfortable and relaxed, then, well... You're at rest. Nothing wrong with this, but to maximize your results you'll have to spend some time being UNcomfortable, because that's where GROWTH HAPPENS. An easy practice, just like an easy life, don't require you to adapt and maximize your abilities.
*
When you ARE both uncomfortable and relaxed, this is where magic happens. If you can truly challenge yourself while remaining mentally AND physically calm, then you will find that extremely hard tasks suddenly feel effortless. When you really hone in on this skill, it'll seem like there is only a question of whether or not you can do something, and not whether it's hard or easy. Things at your upper capacity feel no worse than things that arent challenging for you.

It doesn't mean that you can suddenly do anything you try (though much more than usual!), but it DOES mean you can really push your limits while still fully enjoying the process. And if you're enjoying your challenges, you'll want to spend more time facing them and need less time at rest. On the other hand, someone who faces tough challenges but can't relax will need MUCH more rest to offset the stress and prevent over-training, burnout, injuries / diseases, etc.)

It's amazing how much more you can begin to USE a new position when you build a wider base under it through micro movements, shakes, and playful experimentation to see what else you can do from there.
Build a wider radius around each position and suddenly now you have an infinite supply of transitions to go from one position to another... and isn't that the entire point of movement?

Journey Training vs. Destination Training:
(and ART vs WORK)

Do you train purely to create results (the destination) or do you train for the sake of loving to train (the journey)?

Having a goal / destination for what you'd like to be able to do is important so that you can maintain a sense of direction, but the cycle of sacrifice & success can feel very empty if there isn't a deeper connection to what you're doing.

If you train not just based on what you want to be able to do, but also based on what you actually enjoy practicing, then work and play suddenly become aligned. When that happens, you can do so much more without the high risk of burning out and with a level of joy that will keep you coming back far more than if you had to force it.

When you love your practice, results come far quicker and easier and you put more of yourself into it. This is when you leave behind an approach of a checklist that must be completed when you train, and instead utilize your practice as a form of artistic expression.

Working on improving my neutral handstand line.

Handstand training is a lot less sexy than I expected it to be when I began working toward it, but the presence and concentration that it requires is addicting. When you're balancing on your hands, there is no available concentration to think about anything besides the task at hand. This is part of what makes any athletic practice intoxicating.

It's not so much that you're escaping from your reality so much as that you're going into it more fully by embracing where you are right now and thus letting go of unnecessary thoughts, stress, and distractions.

I've found that people (including me) often try to rely on extra exertion on more challenging movements when what's really needed is extra concentration.

There's nothing wrong with working hard, but the limiting factor is often that a movement isn't being coordinated properly and brute force becomes necessary to try to cram a round peg into a square hole. Concentration increases efficiency, exertion increases force. Increase your efficiency, and your force output will immediately become more focused and effective.

Working on some straight-arm pulling strength and loaded mobility with a slow & controlled tuck #skinthecat. Ultra slow speeds really help you to tune into the movement and find more efficient ways to get through the sections that you may otherwise force your way through or use momentum to skip over.

Rather than just focusing on the 2 ends of a movement, aim to get strong in ALL positions within that movement. That's the difference between a graceful, controlled move and a jerky / strained move.
