Fitness. Nutrition. Health. Coaching Michiganders through life’s obstacles 1 workout at a time Veteran owned and operated

CrossFit begins with a belief in fitness. The aim of CrossFit is to forge a broad, general and inclusive fitness. We have sought to build a program that will best prepare trainees for any physical contingency — not only for the unknown, but for the unknowable. After looking at all sport and physical tasks collectively, we asked what physical skills and adaptations would most universally lend themselves to performance advantage. Capacity culled from the intersection of all sports demands would quite logically lend itself well to all sport. In sum, our specialty is not specializing. CrossFit is many things. Primarily, it’s a fitness regimen developed by Coach Greg Glassman over several decades. He was the first person in history to define fitness in a meaningful, measurable way (increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains). CrossFit itself is defined as that which optimizes fitness (constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity). CrossFit is also the community that spontaneously arises when people do these workouts together. In fact, the communal aspect of CrossFit is a key component of why it’s so effective. Today, CrossFit, the company, provides accredited training seminars throughout the world. We publish several websites providing extensive free content, including workouts, training and support for becoming fit, as well as a growing Journal of extended instruction. We have a worldwide network of more than 5,500 affiliated gyms and more than 35,000 accredited CrossFit Level 1 trainers. And, we have created the Sport of Fitness, known as the CrossFit Games, where we crown the Fittest Man and Woman on Earth. In 2003, we started a “new” blog that would spur a revolution in the fitness industry. The contents were simple: the date, a picture, the Workout of the Day (WOD), and usually some provocative nugget of information. Check out our first full month of posts back in May 2003. Anyone with an Internet connection and the willingness, curiosity and bravery to try it, could. From this simple blog and a single gym in Santa Cruz, Calif., there sprung an immense community of fitness enthusiasts who have learned the movements, tested the theory and accumulated a huge amount of data supporting Glassman’s equation: CVFM @ HI + Communal Environment = Health (-Courtesy of CrossFit Inc.)

Here are a few things that makes BlackHorse stand out over other places:

We get our members results, we have fun doing it, AND we have an awesome community 🤓... (plus we all like tacos 🌮🌮🌮).

Spring is right around the corner. Traveling for spring break? Winter eating get the best of you? Ask us about our current 6 week program and how we can get you started on your fitness journey with us 💪🏼🩳🩱👙

What does being “fit” mean to you?

This picture was taken around 5 years ago. A day that one of our coaches (Sean) hadn’t dreamed about being a possibility.

Baseball was his passion growing up and it’s something he shared with his father ⚾️🥎.

At the ages of 50 and 26, they were able to play ball together, something that hadn’t been done in 10+ years.

So we will ask the question again. What does being “fit” mean to you? Asked another way, what is it that you want to be able to do with your fitness, or in your life in general?

Do you want to be able to play with your kids/grandkids? 👴🏿👵🏽👶🏻👧🏽

Do you want to see how capable your body is in terms of strength? 💪🏼🏋🏻

Do you want to be able to THRIVE in your later years? 🏃🏻‍♀️🤸🏼‍♂️🧘🏾

Do you just want to look good naked? 😉🤷🏻‍♀️

Start asking yourself these questions if you haven’t already.

Are you unsure? That’s ok too. Shoot us a message and one of our coaches will gladly work with you towards your fitness goals 🤗

PS: All of these can be accomplished here at BlackHorse 😉

You can dread tomorrow being Monday or you can be as excited as @ryancarlson32 that tomorrow is a new day 🤘🏼💪🏼🔥. Enjoy the rest of your day!

Are you intimidated by CrossFit?

A common answer we get when talking to potential members about joining is that they don’t think they can do it.

“it’s too hard” 🥴

“I’m not in good enough shape to do that” 😵

“Others will judge me if I can’t do something” 😰

We totally get you. We’ve been there before. Replace CrossFit with anything else.. playing a new instrument. Dancing. Public speaking. Door to door sales. Really, anything we’ve not done before 😬

When we’ve never done something before, it is very common to feel intimidated, scared, or unsure at first. I imagine there’s this physical sensation that comes up for many of you in the stomach, similar to that “butterfly” feeling, or a slightly elevated heart rate. 🦋❤️

Did you know though, that there’s no physiological difference in the body between being scared and being EXCITED? When you boil it down, the only real difference is the story we tell ourselves about the experience.

So what’s the story you’re telling yourself?

Do you have a friend that comes here? Reach out to them and ask them about their experience and mention this post. If you don’t, you can reach out to us via FB or IG for a free fitness assessment and to see if BlackHorse is the next best step for you 💪🏼💪🏼

It’s Monday.. only 4 more days till Friday!

Are you someone who has an iffy relationship with Sunday because in the back of your mind, you know tomorrow starts a new week?

Have you ever wondered what Monday ever did to anyone to gain such a bad rap?

Similarly, have you considered why some of us spend more time dreading our days (Monday-Thursday) vs looking forward to them? 🤔.

Life is what you make of it. You can wake up excited it’s a new day, or you can wake up and dread that it isn’t the weekend anymore. The choice is really up to you.

One thing we do know is that starting off your work week with a great day at the gym can really set the tone for the week 💪🏼🙌🏼🔥.

Here’s a practical exercise you can do. Start a gratitude journal and everyday for the next week, write down at least 3 things you’re grateful for. By next Monday, we’d be willing to bet that your attitude has shifted 😉.

🥳🦄 LADIES 🦄🥳 why wouldn't you want to be a part of this! Strong women, working hard together, encouraging each other and having fun! Get some fitness in, friendship in and support.

Did we mention that we like to have fun here at BlackHorse? 😉

Are you having fun with your fitness journey?? 🤔

Having the ability to enter “the zone” can be great. The ability to push through tough workouts. Get that extra rep in. Add that extra 5-10lbs to a squat set. “Go the extra mile”... you get the idea.

Where do we draw the line though? And have you ever considered that these tools could actually be hindering your progress and resulting in less results?? 😱

Here’s our suggestion. HAVE MORE FUN. Smile more during your fitness adventures! Crack jokes enjoy the process! There are too many other areas in our lives that require more seriousness from us. Let your fitness be enjoyable! You’ll be surprised at the changes you’ll see 😉

Still looking for a great community that encourages fun while still getting after it and seeing results? Come check us out! Send us an email and we’ll get you started: [email protected]

Can you believe we’re already 28 days into A NEW DECADE! 😬

Did you decide to set any new goals for the new year? Did you dream big or did you play small?

In the fitness world, we tend to see a larger influx of people either starting fresh or trying again around this time.

Would you believe it if we said that most don’t last more than 2-3 weeks into their journey? Why is this? Here are the top 3 that we’ve noticed:

Lack of real clarity🤔
Lack of faith/trust🙏🏼
Lack of support🤓

1) Do you know what it is that you really want? And when you answer this question, ask yourself if it’s what YOU truly want or is it something that someone else wants for you?
2) It doesn’t matter what you do in life, if you are constantly on the fence the only guarantee is that you won’t get the most out of what it is you’re doing. Is it beneficial to be skeptical at first? Sure. Just remember to move out of that space and make the commitment though 😉
3) When starting anything new, having support can be HUGE. This isn’t to be confused with NEEDING someone/thing to motivate you. You are more than capable of doing this on your own. Believe that. At the same time, know that there will be resistance at first. Blocks and obstacles that will appear from time to time. “I’m too tired today”. “I don’t have enough time”. “Am I wasting my time?” are just some of the examples of them playing out. Having someone there to help support you during this times can be very beneficial.

What are your goals for 2020? Share them below (fitness related or not!). BONUS INFO: Did you know that sharing your goals with others can help you make them a reality more quickly!? 🤯🔥
