[01/11/19]   Sharing this from J. Hill, PGA Pro, to all of our golfing friends:

It is 22 degrees as I write this… with rain, freezing rain, and snow showers in the forecast for the weekend!
I would like to invite everyone indoors!
Beginning this Wednesday night, January 16th, at 5:30pm we will gather in the Grill Room. You, your friend, your neighbor, or a co-worker, whoever wants to talk about golf!
I’m picking the first topic…the modern day wedge. I get questions at every club fitting and most lessons about the wedge. We will discuss all the components of a wedge and certainly clear up bounce, grind and grooves.
If we have a good turnout and interest to continue, I will plan to host an event every Wednesday night in January and February. I will ask you for input on topics to discuss each week relating to teaching and equipment.
There is NO CHARGE to attend. However, I am bringing back an event I did many moons ago called…Golf Tips for Tips. I will bring a Tip Jar each night and set it out. We are all adults, if you have a good time and want to continue, throw a couple of bucks in the jar.
If my math is right we have 7 Wednesdays. Be sure to think about what you would like to discuss. My goals are to introduce or re-introduce myself as a teacher and club fitter…to talk about the golf swing and see if we can find ways to get better… which in turn will make us want to play more!
Hope to see a big crowd Wednesday night! If you want to email me your questions about wedges (or anything else) so I will be sure to address your concern, fire me an email!
Thanks,
J. Hill, PGA Pro

[08/06/18]   Good morning,
Oak Valley Golf Club will be hosting a Titleist Ball Fitting Event Tuesday August 7th. From 8am to 12 noon. Please mark your calendars and come out and get some knowledge on the most important piece of equipment in your bag…the golf ball!

Jake Kennedy from Titleist will be set up in our Golf Shop. Please come out and have Jake ask you some questions about your golf game and shot tendencies. Within a couple of minutes Jake will make a couple of recommendations on which golf ball you should play and why. You end up with some great knowledge and a couple of the best golf balls “for you” to put into play next time you tee it up!

Titleist interviews a lot of golfers, most fall into one of three categories. The golfer who uses the golf ball they find on the golf course, changing brands and type of ball almost every round…the golfer who plays a brand other than Titleist, and of course the Titleist brand golfer. Regardless of your swing speed or handicap, Titleist has the right golf ball! They are the #1 golf ball for a reason, come out and hear why.

How Does Summer Heat Stress Affect My Game?

usga.org How Does Summer Heat Stress Affect My Game?

[07/02/18]   Oak Valley Rules Challenge - Congrats to Amanda Vernon
Richardson! She was the first person to respond with the correct score from the rules challenge. Amanda correctly gave Andy a score of 7 for the hole.

When Andy broke the limb from the tree and discontinued his stroke, he incurred a 2 shot penalty under Rule 13 for improving the area of his intended swing. Had he continued the stroke, there would have been no penalty. Andy then proceeded correctly under the unplayable ball rule (Rule 28 - 1 shot penalty) and finished out the hole

Honorable Mention goes out to Nick Capra for suggesting Andy play a different brand of ball.

Here was the question:

In stroke play on hole #3, Andy has a ball under a tree laying one. Andy fairly takes his stance and starts his backswing with the intention of making a stroke. Near the top of his backswing his club strikes a branch and breaks it. At that point he discontinues his swing. Andy then decides to take an unplayable lie and drops his ball within two club lengths from its original position, no closer to the hole. From there, Andy hits it on the green and two putts. He then proceeds to tee off on the next hole. What is his score for hole #3?
