Can't wait till Y Lake Anna opens back up!
Let's get revenge on the Corona Virus... www.RunOverRona5k.run It's a virtual 5K run/walk in place of our event that we had to cancel for April 24th. Thanks
I saw a post from 2 years ago considering updates to the Firestone Y. I suppose it's still be considered? What a great time to do some updates Let me say this, the staff there is amazing. The facility needs help. Wall unit air-conditioning, equipment that is ancient, equipment that never gets used due to it not fitting in with that population of gym goers. I went in the other day when it was slightly warmer out, high 40's and it was so humid in the building that the treadmill belts were wet! Or days you walk into a furnace. The treadmill fans have enough dust built up in the vents to be visible. I tried sticking my disinfectant cloth in but I couldn't reach it. Half the weight stack pins are broken. People just throw the cable attachments down anywhere due to the hooks being so low and not visible. The color scheme makes a small room even smaller. Please help our corner out!
Hello, will the Y be providing any compensation, credit, or reimbursement for days closed?
Just did a couple of the workouts on Y 360 and it felt great. We're going to do the Beginners Yoga this afternoon. It's important to stay fit while we wait for things to normalize.
Dear friends YMCA I write to you from Chile. My names are Royster Linares, I am Venezuelan and I want to know if they still do car racing for children? Here in Chile I want to create these car races for boys and girls.
Thank you for our delicious treat basket and all the support that contributed to the success to our Regatta. We appreciate it! #thanksbosslady

What Parents Can Learn From Child Care Centers That Stayed Open During Lockdowns

During state lockdowns, the Y cared for nearly 40K children ages 1-14 at 1,100 sites. And we've learned a lot about keeping kids across the country healthy and safe! https://n.pr/3dvqdQV

Students learn the Signs of Believing in Themselves

Thank you, First Congregational Church of Akron, for making the Akron Y your Mission of the Month!

Students in the After-School program of the Akron Area Y at their Cascade Village location, were eager to learn the words, tune and signs to Arthur's "Believ...

Even though you can't see all of them ... there are big smiles under those masks. These children, part of WYDACA's Summer Day Camp, just took the CATCH pledge to (at least) try the healthy snacks that will be coming there way, as part of this program, funded in part by United Way of Summit County.

Happy Father's Day from the Akron Area YMCA! What was the greatest life lesson your father has ever given you?

After warnings that started AT LEAST one year ago, TODAY IS THE DAY of the "official" retirement of our CFO Gib Butler. He'll be a hard person to replace -- but an impossible person to forget. THANK YOU for the 27 years of dedicated service and "fiscal fitness" that you brought to the Association. God Bless You, Gib!!!

The Y Association staff social-distanced (sort of ) as a prelude to a celebration for retiring CFO Gib Butler. The flowers are for his wife. The Inspiration Wall, for all of us, is one of (6) that will be placed throughout the Y locations, in honor of Gib's focus on Christian values. Friends old and new stopped in today to partake in some @Luigi's and @Insomnia Cookies treats -- and most importantly to wish Gib well on his next adventure.

The Akron Y works to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, age, cultural background, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender identity, ideology, income, national origin, race or sexual orientation, has the opportunity to reach their full potential. The Y is for all! https://www.akronymca.org/

Take the time and appreciate the little things in life. Before you know it, you could be missing them. #MindfulMonday

Stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water (most guidelines recommend 8-10 glasses a day) is important year-round, but in the warmer months it becomes even more important as we need to replenish the water we lose through sweat. Stay energized, healthy, and happy: drink water! 💦

"I think the YMCA provides a service that has been inaccessible to people because of a gap in the system. I personally benefit from the Y’s resources in service because I am a full time working mom-two jobs actually-and I'm unable to provide a lot of care that other people take for granted. I can't do a lot of extracurriculars. I don't have a lot of extra income for my daughter's childcare. And this provides a gap in services that are provided to people that might be just above the threshold for support from the government. So that's pretty unique that YMCA fills the gap for people like me. I don't want to say that I'm ‘working poor’ because I feel really lucky to have a full time job at the University of Akron. I'm doing all the right things. I got a master's degree, I work full time. I even have a second job, I'm actually still pursuing a graduate degree program. I'm doing everything I possibly can to make it in life and get ahead. And even still, I struggle. So the YMCA fills the gap. They make childcare accessible to me and my daughter. I honestly couldn't do this if it were not for the YMCA and Hope--and that's the truth.” - Katie, Hope Early Care and Education Center.

YMCA of Central Stark County

United, we stand.

The YMCAs of Stark and Summit counties' mission is to put Christian values into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body FOR ALL. We work passionately every day to serve each of our communities supporting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

We share in the sadness and frustration felt by our country in the wake of George Floyd’s death. Our prayers and condolences are with the many families of victims of racial injustice and violence.

Consistent with our mission and cause, we stand in solidarity against all manners of institutional racism, oppression, and systemic social inequity. We have the opportunity to impact both the current and future generation of leaders in our community and we do not take that responsibility lightly.

Our YMCAs are FOR ALL.

As we continue to work to create more equitable communities, we will raise our voices to say “ WE CAN, AND WILL DO BETTER.”
