The Ayurveda Health Retreat (AHR) is one of the premier retreat centers in Florida that offer traditional Ayurvedic medicine and Panchakarma treatments. The AHR was established by Richard A. Masla, Ayurvedic Practitioner, in 2001 and is located in the small historic town of Alachua, in north central Florida. The Retreat initially had only one treatment room and an office space. From these humble beginnings, it now encompasses three buildings: a beautiful yoga studio, a retreat center and a yoga ashram. Annually we serve hundreds of guests who visit us from all over the world.

The traditional routine can be quite elaborate, so here we will start by sharing some simple yet life changing basics for your Morning Routine:

.•rise before the sun. Even if your tired, waking up before or with the sun gives energy!
.•scrape your tongue with a tongue scraper which stimulates digestion and elimination, preferably a copper scraper.
.•Drink a large glass of warm water – with lemon.
.•Evacuate bladder & bowls( ideally within 1 hour if waking)
.•yoga, breathing techniques and meditation

>>> if your body isn’t working efficiently and isn’t digesting well, you can be eating a low low calorie diet, as well as all the “right” things, but still never loose weight!

the strength of our digestion, it’s ability to digest and assimilate what we eat, as well as eating with the proper attention and at the right times ••• these are things to keep in mind when trying to find and maintain BALANCE.

the body is not programmed to digest late at night, and needs more to focus its energy on burning excess toxins and regenerating the body so that you can feel bright eyed and bushy tailed for the next day 🌸

Dinner should be your lightest meal, and be sure to be fully digested by 9pm so that by 10pm (PITTA time 🔥), rather than digesting your food, the fire energy can work on revitalizing and cleaning house (your body:).

when in Balance, pittas are motivated, highly intelligent, focused, generous, motivational speakers, great leaders, and to the point.

when the fire gets too hot from the summer season, eating hot, heating and spicy foods, or just overworking oneself, we’ll tend to get inflammation, skin rashes, heartburn, loose 💩. We become competitive, self-centered, frustrated, angry, jealous, and judgmental.

how to balance Pitta during these summer months?
• Cool down >>> self massage with coconut oil, cool shower, walk on cool grass
• gentle yoga (chill out pittas! we know you WANT hot yoga ... but that’ll throw you out of balance!)
• swimming, relaxing
• perform acts of generosity (taking yourself out of the center)
• avoid overbooking your schedule
• Cavour cooking hey simple foods (summer harvest!)
• avoid caffeine, alcohol, spicy and fried foods 🌶 🍟

a y u r v e d a • m a m a || vata is the most important dosha to keep an eye on during pregnancy. because there is so much happening in our bodies, so much movement and change, vata tends to go out of balance quite quickly.
.
high vata, believe it or not, can make us GAIN weight! vata is in charge of all movement, and when vata is out of balance, things can’t MOVE as easily as they should.
.
when vata is imbalanced, the skin will become more dry, hence stretch marks are more likely. there will be more fear and anxiety. a lack of rhythm in life. and constipation is much much more common. high vata is likely the cause of migraines during pregnancy, as well as often involved in morning sickness!
.
how to balance vata during pregnancy? here’s a few tips ✨
.
• find rhythm in your life with waking, eating and sleeping times.
• for your meals, let at least 85% be warm, cooked, grounding, oily and nourishing foods that are easier to digest.
• once you’re in second trimester, see if you can eat 3 meals per day without snacking. If a snack is needed in between, have a juicy fruit 🍉 and a few soaked nuts. or a blended soup with digestive spices 🍲 >>> easy to digest
• massage your body with sesame oil in the mornings, 20 minutes BEFORE your shower.
• take baths 🛁
• for exercise; slow, rhythmic, stabilizing and grounding are words to aim for.
• adaptogens stabilize the nervous system. I take them each morn and they help me feel grounded, and my nervous system calm 🌙
