🧡🙏...Huge shout out to all of you that support VYP - you are all amazing ! Thank You !
Hi Everyone, Thank you for your service. I wanted to invite you to Radioman the Play World Premiere Facebook Watch Party This is a play that was written about veterans, PTSD, coming home and redemption. It's based on a book of poetry my dad wrote after Vietnam, his and many other veteran's experiences, our family living with PTSD, and the veterans at Blue Ox who found healing working with their hands. It's an incredibly real play, and so very healing. It was created in the spirit of understanding, healing, and honoring our heroes. (that's you!) I hope you enjoy it.
DONATING HEALTH COACHING SESSIONS OR MEDITATION SESSIONS TO VETERANS! I am a Health Coach (Duke Integrative Medicine Health Coaching Fdn.) and a Culinary Coach (Harvard Lifestyle Medicine) plus a Yoga Instructor (Gentle Yoga and Senior/Chair Yoga). Brantley at Duke Integrative Medicine. I am donating 20 minutes to any veteran that contacts me for a Health & Wellness Coaching session or a Meditation session. We will meet by phone or live video chat for your session. Please contact me to setup your session and state 2 days and 2 times that you would like and which type of session (health coaching or guided meditation). Thank you! I Finishing my dissertation. I am wondering anyone can point me to research done on yoga relapse prevention/ decreased cortisol levels. Veteran specific preferred and PTSD, but civilian helps too. Having trouble finding a lot for this one section. thanks
I never thought I'd say, "I need to go use my oils again, my head's starting to hurt." But they really do work! I don't take Excedrin for headaches anymore! Score 100% for natural medicine!!! 0% for PTSD. https://www.facebook.com/groups/228038911656991/
Today at 5 pm Central Standard time, 6 pm Eastern Standard Time. Live Facebook class on Adaptive Yoga in the Beaumont & Nederland Tx. Teacher - Gail Pickens-Barger page. Go over there and "Like" that page, so that you'll have easier access to the live class. What do I need for this 30 minute class? * A Chair! * Other Gear: A strap, or tie, or belt, or a long beach towel. The strap though is optional! Great for Veterans, families and our community. Thank you for trying these unique yoga class offerings during our time of Social Distancing during our world's health crisis.
Hello - do you serve Gold Star families as well as veterans? I only ask because I see you are often in Montana, and my resources here are scarce. My brother, a Navy veteran, died by suicide 5 years ago, and I'm looking for ways to sew my mental fabric back together. Thank you for your time and all of your posts!

Veterans Yoga Project Mindful Resilience

Each June, we take time to celebrate our fathers. With social distancing in place, some of you may be physically incapable of being with your father or father-figure. Father’s Day is a day meant to celebrate the people who raised us, but how do we celebrate during a time of crisis?

By honoring him.

This Father’s Day we would like to honor one of our Navy Veterans and Ambassador Jaime Yslas. Jaime has been a dedicated teacher with Veterans Yoga Project since 2017.

Jaime dedicated his time to improving the services offered to our veteran community in Washington. He helped establish many of the programs we have in South Seattle. Jaime also taught at these locations: Seattle Vet Center, Cohen Military Family Clinic at Valley Cities, Compass Veterans Center in Renton, Tacoma Vet Center and JB Lewis-McChord.

Dedicated And Devoted to his family, Jaime is an awesome DAD. The photo below captures Jaime with his grandson Logan in 2015 and then again with his granddaughter Kayla in 2020. His daughter Sarah is a Senior Chief Petty Officer in the Navy and is married to Curtis, a Chief Petty Officer.

Jaime moved to Jacksonville for about sixteen months shortly after Logan’s birth because his father was assigned to a port overseas. This effectively made Sarah a single mother, so Jaime moved in with them to lend a hand. It was just after his return to the Seattle area that he attended one of VYP’s Mindful Resilience Trainings and joined our VYP family as a teacher.

Fast forward to 2020 and due to current life’s circumstances, he moved to be closer to his family as Curtis is again on sea duty assigned to a ship homeported in San Diego. Now, Jaime has a small condo very close to his family, so he spends time almost every day with them. Jaime hopes to begin to teach again with VYP in the San Diego area.

Happy Father’s Day to every father, dad, daddy-to-be and father figure! A Salute to YOU ALL!

With gratitude,

Deb Jeannette, C-IAYT, E-RYT® 500, YACEP®
Board President

Awareness. Acceptance. Action. A Message of Solidarity from VYP

A Message to our Veterans Yoga Project Community,

Veterans Yoga Project exists to help our communities transform trauma into growth. Amidst the traumas that many of us are living through, our hearts are heavy and we want to serve. Fortunately, our veteran communities have shown us how to be resilient in the face of adversity and how to unite for a mission greater than any one individual. At Veterans Yoga Project, our mission is to support recovery and resilience among all of our diverse veterans and active-duty service members, families, and communities. Veterans Yoga Project unwaveringly supports the Black community and all efforts to eliminate systemic racism and inequality. Veterans Yoga Project commits to being an anti-racist organization that strives for diversity, equity, and inclusion. (click the link to continue)

Veterans Yoga Project’s online classes contribute to lower incidence of pain and distress among its viewers

During the month of April, students were given a survey to determine the change in levels of physical pain and distress from before a class to after its end. Data from 28 participants demonstrated significant reductions in both pain and distress as a result of their home yoga practice, chosen from the variety currently being offered through the VYP Online Streaming Classes on both Facebook and Zoom. (Figure 6 below).

In April, an additional 663 Facebook followers began to utilize our free, online programs which include yoga, yoga nidra, and breathwork sessions, from numerous countries, including the U.S., Germany, Canada, Jordan, and Australia.
Veterans Yoga Project looks forward to its continued efforts in supporting the health and well-being of military veterans.

Mindful Resilience for Recovery and Resilience is an evidence-informed, clinically-tested yoga program that was developed specifically for veterans recovering from post-traumatic stress and other psychological difficulties. It is evidence-informed, in that practices have been chosen and adapted based on clinical and neuro-scientific knowledge about post-traumatic stress and its treatment. Clinical testing was based on feedback from hundreds of veterans and active-duty service members receiving treatment at residential and outpatient treatment programs.
This Veterans Yoga Project training consists of a balance of practice and lecture/discussion. At the end of the training, participants will understand the symptoms of post-traumatic stress and other trauma-related disorders, how those symptoms are related to underlying neurobiology, and how to use this understanding to most effectively teach individuals recovering from trauma.

Veterans Yoga Project (VYP) has launched its Fifth Annual Memorial Day Light-A-Candle Campaign now through June 5, 2020.

Memorial Day we remember those Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We recognize their service which led to the freedoms that we all enjoy today.

The ritual of lighting a candle in remembrance of a life passed has long been a part of our culture. Keeping a light burning acknowledges that the memory still lives on and burns bright in our hearts. It is a ritual that promotes reflection and signifies a perpetual remembrance.
Due to Covid-19 this year, VYP will not be holding a live ceremony of Light-A-Candle, many of the Memorial Day Parades and wreath laying ceremonies are also cancelled. All the more reason we need to come together to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice with Light-A-Candle.
Will you help us raise awareness about our nationwide mission by creating your personal peer-to-peer fundraising page for Light-A-Candle? Peer-to-Peer fundraising is communicating within your own personal network including social media, family members, friends, and co-workers
Two steps to get started:
1) Create your own peer-to-peer fundraising page using VYP's NEON system. Set your own personal goal. Our overall goal is to reach $20,000. Here is a step-by-step tutorial in the YouTube Video: https://youtu.be/7VGVJAFRRzw
2) Share the link of your personal page with your family, friends, peers, associates through social media sites and emails. When an individual makes a donation to your personal fundraising page, they will receive a thank you letter from VYP with a link to light a virtual Light-A-Candle in honor of their loved one.
Please Help Light-A-Candle Glow Brighter than Ever!
If you cannot create your own personal fundraising page, please do support our programs through Light-A-Candle by donating here: Light-A-Candle Here

Your gift will go directly to support recovery and resilience among our veterans, families, and communities in our Mindful Resilience Programs. This includes our VYP Online Streaming programming initiated through the current Covid-19 pandemic as well as providing scholarships for veterans, military and family members. Without your support we could not do this. Thank YOU!

Our Story

Veterans Yoga Project is an educational and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of military veterans.

Working in partnership with veterans, active-duty military personnel, student veterans’ organizations, and other non-profit organizations, VYP-trained instructors teach over 100 free yoga classes each week for veterans and their families. By providing support to all veterans, whether they are currently struggling with severe symptoms, or they are focused on increasing resilience and giving back to others, Veterans Yoga Project is doing its part to serve those who have served.

Veterans Yoga Project teaches self-regulation skills. Our Mindful Resilience/Mindful Yoga Therapy program consists of five tools: Breath, Meditation, Mindful Movement, Guided Rest, and Gratitude. These practices are adapted and delivered to maximize their ability to undo the nervous system dysfunctions that underlie symptoms of stress-related conditions.

Veterans Yoga Project creates opportunities for healing through multi-day retreats. These retreats clear the time and space necessary to release the traumatic imprints that negatively influence our lives and create new habits that are more aligned with our values and goals.

Veterans Yoga Project provides advanced training in Mindful Resilience for yoga teachers and healthcare professionals. Our training programs provide yoga teachers and other healthcare professionals with the skills to safely and effectively use yoga as a complementary therapy in clinical and community settings.

Veterans Yoga Project is a IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
