[02/11/20]   Week seven action of the CBA LaHoop league was at an all-time high. With a heavy sports schedule (basketball @ Shaker and Hockey @ Nisky) and a time change, we saw some thin rosters. The players who showed did not disappoint. Two overtime games and three teams went one and one on the night, game one Rutgers vs UMass was a true shootout, tied at seven by halftime, it took a last-second two-point shot by roster sub Jake Kennedy to tie it for Rutgers and Logan Dorrance stuck the winner in OT. Combination of Peyton Doyle and Will Vivian continues to be a dynamic duo, add in Kennedy and Aidan Necaise and Siena scored 34 goals on the night. Some highlights included,
A 2 point bounce shot by Jake Kennedy, LaHoop debut of Nolan Emanation saw him chip in with 4 goals, Jon Rollo's attempt to perfect the "Mattice Toss" fell short when he missed the goal, Freddie Smith had a between the legs dunk, Will Vivian went 0 for 15 on 2 pointers (played in 4 games ), Ironmen on the night for multiple games included Thomas O'hea, Mike Losavio and Jack O'Connor, Jamo Howley.... Best for last, most of the gym had cleared out and the nightcap of Albany vs Syracuse may have been the best LaHoop game of the year. Albany took a 2 goal lead at half and scored the first three of the second half when Syracuse had enough and went on a tear, the combination of Rollo, Nate Johnson, and Evan Guzi tied the game, the teams traded goals, with Albany up one Syracuse chose to hold the ball for the last shot, Rollo drove hard to the hoop, drew a slide and passed back to Johnson who nailed the buzzer-beater, Albany prevailed in OT, with precision passing Freddie Smith finished the winner.

The next session is 2/24, final regular-season week, double-elimination tourney based on the final standings will follow.

[01/14/20]   The 2019-20 LaHoop League has hit the halfway point. The midpoint leader Siena has set a high bar on offense averaging 15 goals per game on the season. Last night's action saw more of the same, Siena scored 17 versus UMass and 12 against Syracuse. Peyton Doyle and Don Vivian leading the way on offense with plenty of support from Jake Kennedy, Jake Angelidis and Aiden Necaise. Albany kept pace with two wins on the night, Albany's roster was given a boost with the season debut of Gabe Clement. Freddie Smith and Eli Hannoush are a tough pair to defend and Mike Losavio and Jack O'Connor doing some heavy lifting on both ends have Albany in second place 1 game behind Siena. UMass in third place (5-5) with Christian Davidson and Nick Mattice carrying the scoring, assists galore for Rion Dugan, Thomas Ohea, Derek Derboghossian, and Ian Pacifico. Rutgers making their presence known with close games every week, Swenson, Howley, Rogler, Dorrance, James focused on a second-half surge. Currently in fifth place is Syracuse. As they say "don't wake a sleeping giant" Syracuse is poised to flip the standings in the second half. They are playing exciting full-court offense, Jon Rollo, Serge Shishik, Nate Johnson, Mike West, and Gavin Piskutz all seniors complimenting sophomore Evan Guzi, watch out!

Highlights....... play of the night,,,,, Sean Swenson moonwalked with his back to goal, defenders in shock stopped to watch allowing Sean to go in for the dunk, 2 pointers Will Vivian hit his first of the season last week but 0-9 this week, Howley 0-8, Kennedy 0-7, including 3 attempts off the wall, back in action January 27

[12/10/19]   LaHoop Week 2 Highlights

Last night's action saw some of the most exciting play ever witnessed in a LaHoop game.
The night got off to a slow start with Rutgers and UMass playing to a 3-1 halftime score in favor of Rutgers, UMass had a better second half but fell short (9-6). Nick Mattice made his season debut in the game, more on him later. Moving to the third game of the night Rutgers and Syracuse traded goals all game forcing the first sudden victory period of the season. Knotted at 12 Rutgers controlled the faceoff and Goalie Logan Dorrance sent home the winner. Siena vs UMass matched the excitement of the third game with their own sudden victory period, Nick Mattice falling back on an extensive Box Lacrosse career backed in his defender drew a double team and hit Christian Davidson with a perfect pass, Davidson drilled a low to high game-winner.
Highlights..... Rutgers' Cam James did all the heavy lifting for Rutgers (2-0 on the night) playing tenacious defense and owning the ground ball war... As far as the fiddlesticks go, Serge Shishik had a natural hat trick in the OT game and two more in their second game..... I'm not sure I can give this it's proper due, Nick Mattice borrowing Shishik's fiddlestick, threw his stick into the air with the ball in it, ran forward caught the stick and hit the shot all in one motion, I'm going to check the security camera to see if there is any film! He did go on to bend the fiddle in the second half. Syracuse (2-0) was inspired by the return of Nate Johnson off the IR, teaming up with Rollo and Piskutz saw a big increase in scoring. Albany was fueled by the return of two LaHoop vets PJ McHugh '17 and Ryan Malone '19,.... 2 point shots... Derek Derby hit a long one aided by a goaltending call, Will Vivian 0-11, Sean Swenson 0-8, Jake Kennedy 0-7, keep trying boys!
Next week's schedule is below,

[12/06/19]   The CBA LaHoop league got underway after snow forced a reschedule of week one action.
Two games stood out in a full night's action. The second game of the night, Siena vs Rutgers went right down to the wire, tied 7-7 at the half, Junior Peyton Doyle scored the game-winner with under 30 seconds remaining for the 14-13 victory. In the fourth game of the night Albany raced out to a big lead but Rutgers led by Senior Jamo Howley fought back and held a two-goal lead in the last minute Albany closed the gap to one with a goal by Senior Freddie Smith but Rutgers held on for a 19-18 victory.
Highlights..... Sophomore Elias Hannoush led Albany in scoring on the night and just missed the first
" reverse tomahawk dunk" in LaHoop history by hitting the pipe....Freddie Smith hit the first two-point shot of the season and only the second in LaHoop history, (Josh Frese, 2013),.....Ian Pacifico was the ironman of the night playing in 4 of the 5 games....Serge Shishik and Sean Swenson debuted the first "fiddlesticks " in LaHoop history, the jury is still out :), Traditional defensemen Mike Losavio, Jake Angelidis scored goals, converted Attackman Conor Rogler scored a hattrick on the night....
