Any idea if there willbe a baseball game bus trip again this year?
Hi, All! Hope you won't mind helping us out with a few votes for a great cause. Our Colonie Pop Warner youth cheer team entered a contest sponsored by Rebel Athletic called #RebelAgainstBullying. We are concerned about bullying in our community so we decided to start the Hi Project. Our idea is that Hi is a little word with a big meaning. People who are bullied often report feelings of social isolation-loneliness. Our thought is that a simple Hi can sometimes make people feel less alone in this world. Watch our video. We are finalist in a contest and need your likes to win. You can vote by clicking on the video and liking the actual video on pop Warner’s page! Also please share!!!! Thanks from your Colonie Pop Warner Jr Varsity cheerleaders! https://www.facebook.com/119501891404578/posts/2004168022937946/
My daughter signed up to play Fall Ball and even though I thought that games were to start of 9/9/18, I have yet to hear from anyone about the league....AFTER many emails and phone calls. IS THERE ANY INFO AVAILABLE?
Registration for our Fall season is now OPEN! From a competitive standpoint, Fall Ball is in between our recreation games and travel league games. Some stricter rules are enforced, but the emphasis on competition does not reach that of travel games and more closely resembles our recreation games. Our Fall Softball teams will again play within divisions of the Hudson Mohawk (HM) District 7 Girls Softball Traveling League at all levels. Our Fall Baseball teams will once again play within divisions of the Eastern States Baseball League (ESBL). We will also be offering in-house development programs in both softball and baseball - see below. SOFTBALL For 8U (In-House), we will be running our own in-house program primarily focusing on instruction and skills development through both individual and team based drills and scrimmages. Emphasis will be on throwing, fielding and hitting. In the past, the program was one weeknight a week plus a set time on Saturday. Exact details for this year's program are still being worked out. We will let you know when they are finalized. All 8U players will also have the opportunity to play on our 8U HM team, as listed below. For 8U (HM), 10U, 12U, 14U, and 17U, play consists of doubleheaders on four consecutive Sundays beginning on September 9th, and ending on September 30th (8 games total). In addition, each team will practice one to two times per week on top of the games. Travel will be within the local area, i.e., Latham, Burnt Hills, Shen, Rotterdam, etc. We may be scheduled for home games, if our league is asked to host on one of the Sundays, but we will not know until schedules are released by HM. BASEBALL For 8U, 9U, 10U and 11U, all players will participate in an in-house skills clinic, held each Tuesday and Thursday 5:45 - 7:30pm. All players will have the opportunity to tryout for our travel fall ball teams at 8U, 9U, 10U and 11U. Play for the travel teams will be on Saturdays and/or Sundays, beginning on or around September 8th or 9th, and ending around October 6th or 7th (8 - 10 games total). Some days will consist of doubleheaders. We will have some home games, as well as away games within the local area at locations such as Niskayuna, Guilderland, North Colonie, etc. We will know exact game dates when schedules are released by ESBL. REGISTRATION The Fall Ball registration fee this year for each player is $80. To register, go to our website at www.southcolonieball.org/registration and click on the 'Register' button! If you have any questions about Softball, please contact Bryan at [email protected] . If you have any questions about Baseball, please contact Matt at [email protected] . We hope to see you for Fall Ball! Thanks, Bryan Kelly, SC Softball President Matt Conley, SC Baseball President
I’m not sure even where to begin to express my words of appreciation, gratitude and amazement at the 8U and 9U All-Star coaches this weekend. You all are an inspiration and I hope you know what a difference you are making in the lives in these young boys. My sons didn’t come home and talk about how they lost, they came home and said “mom, I have the best coaches in the world! I hope you realize what that means to me as a parent. Those boys weren’t blind to the practices of those other coaches out there this weekend and they certainly weren’t blind to your ways either! Keep up the amazing work and it will be an honor to continue to play for you as long as possible!
A friend and I are interested in getting out kids into T-Ball, but we can't find any information on it. When are games/practice? We want to register, but need more information in order to figure out if this will work for us. You can PM me or respond here. TIA

Where the game is about the kids

West Albany Athletic Association is now: South Colonie Youth Baseball - Cal Ripken Our boundaries are open to any child living within the South Colonie School District. By converting our program, SCYB will be the only Cal Ripken program offered in the South Colonie School District. What is Cal Ripken Baseball? It is basically a "brand" of baseball similar to the current Little League brand of baseball we have played for years at West Albany. The kids play by slightly different rules, mostly at the 8-12 years of age levels. The rules in which they play by are very helpful as they transition out of youth baseball at age 12 and onto Babe Ruth baseball and/or modified school baseball at age 13. This program offers the same experience for the kids as far as all-stars goes, with all-star tournaments from age 8U to 12U, beginning at a District level and continue right up through a World Series played in Aberdeen, Maryland. In a nutshell, the Cal Ripken style of play allows the kids to experience a more "real baseball" style of play where leading, stealing and bunting are introduced at an earlier age. In what we now call our Majors division, the kids play on a slightly larger field which really has been proven in many other Cal Ripken programs in the area to be very beneficial in the transition to the Babe Ruth level and modified baseball in 7th & 8th grades. While we respect and encourage the competitive nature of baseball, at SCYB we strive to maintain a family friendly environment that children of all playing abilities enjoy being part of as they grow as a player. (Please understand that families currently playing at West Albany that reside in either the North Colonie or City of Albany school districts are NOT affected by this change, you will be grandfathered in and CAN continue playing at our park along with any siblings that have yet to start in our program.)

2020 Board Membership
Our annual membership meeting will be held October 14th, 2019, where new General Boards and Executive Boards will be voted on. As with every year, there will be new members and turnover as should be expected. South Colonie Youth Baseball and Girls Softball ONLY exists due to our VOLUNTEERS! Please consider joining our team. Simply email Matt Conley @ [email protected] and/or Bryan Kelly @ [email protected] before the 14th and we will get your names added to the list.

General board Requirements:
Meetings:
The board gets together once a month, usually the 2nd Monday evening of each month. We try hard to keep them to about an hour and take care of any outstanding issues while getting brief updates on how everything at the league is going. Attendance at meetings is important as we need a quorum for any votes to take place.

Officer of the Day:
About twice a spring season, each board member takes turns being OD which simply entails making sure everyone at the park is safe and has everything they need at games that day. They play the National Anthem, do 50-50 raffle and generally just help out wherever it is needed. Everyone understands things come up, so fellow board members (with notice) have always been willing to switch scheduled days as needed.

Committees:
All board members join a committees of their choice. There is a chair for each committee and the group works together to accomplish that committee’s roles. The following is a list of past committees:
- Fundraising, Equipment, Uniforms/ Trophies, Opening Day, Concession, Recruiting, Registration, Travel Ball, Umpires, Bylaws, IT (facebook, webpage), Public Relations/ Special Events, Closing Day, Field Maintenance
