Brodhead Youth Bowling

Brodhead Youth Bowling is an organization geared to help the Youth of our community learn how to excel in the sport of bowling. Our program is designed to help bowlers at any level, from beginner to advanced.

The Brodhead Youth Bowling Program is open to any youth in our general area. You do not need to know how to bowl to sign up for our leagues. We have awesome coaches who would love to teach you the sport of bowling. If you do know how to bowl our coaches can help you to further your game and guide you towards new goals to take your game to the next level.

Mission: Our primary objective is to help Youth Bowlers strive for excellence in the sport of bowling by assisting them in the development of the skills they will need to become successful bowlers. This includes teaching them sportsmanship, bowling etiquette, rules of play, leadership, and respect for other bowlers, themselves and the center.

Parker's 9-Pin 300 game

Today was our annual Thanksgiving 9-pin "Turkey Shoot" fun day. For the first time in recent memory we had a bowler shoot a 9-pin 300 game! Great job Parker! We can't wait to see you do it for real!

For this season pre-bowling will be allowed for qualifying in the Pepsi Tournament at the league level. You may pre-bowl the night before our qualifying dates of October 31st, November 7th, January 9th, and January 16th. Although the rules state that post-bowling is allowed, Albany Lanes is closed Sundays. Please ask Amy if you have any questions.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT . . . Attention all bowling centers participating in the 2020-21 Wisconsin Pepsi USBC Tournament

Due to COVID-19, BCAW has received permission to provide flexibility to the in-center qualifying to allow for pre or post bowling if you have bowlers in a USBC youth certified league needing to reschedule their regularly scheduled youth league games.

The following is the revised rule approved today by the IBC Youth Development staff at USBC:

"10. Pre/post bowling will be permitted. Each pre/post bowled series must be bowled within three days of the official league scheduled dates (10/24/20-11/14/20 & 12/26/20-1/16/21). The maximum number of pre/post bowling may be no more than the number of scheduled league sessions during the qualifying period. Advancement to the next competition level will be from the league level."

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Sandy Jeske at the BCAW office. (YB)

Sad news. Many of our bowlers have benefited from his knowledge.

Richard “Dick” Ritger, age 81 of River Falls, died Thursday, August 27, 2020 at his home. He was born on November 8, 1938 to Dave and Evelyn Ritger in Hartford, WI. His childhood was spent living in the family apartment above a 10-lane bowling establishment owned by his parents, and he took full advantage of those lanes to develop exceptional bowling skills. He graduated from Lacrosse University in 1960 with a degree in PhyEd and Recreation and then worked as Recreation Director for the city of Hartford. After being awarded the Wisconsin Bowler of the Year in 1962, 1963, and 1965, Dick decided to test his bowling skills on the Professional Tour. Professional bowling was a very successful venture for him, and he captured 20 PBA titles in his 15 years on Tour, appearing often on TVs Wide World of Sports. Dick was a gentleman on and off the lanes and was twice awarded the PBAs Sportsmanship Award. He was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1978, the ABC Hall of Fame in 1984, and the Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008 and was named one of the top 20 bowlers of the century in 2000. In his bowling career, Dick found that he had the skills to teach others, and he put his college degree to work by formulating the “Dick Ritger Bowling Camps” which were headquartered in Ithaca, NY for many years. His teaching programs were world renowned and he taught in 38 countries across five continents. Dick estimates that he taught 25,000 bowlers how to improve their bowling skills. He developed a three-part video/DVD series called “The Feelings of Bowling” that was distributed worldwide. He also helped to develop a “Wounded Warrior” program to help disabled veterans by refining and modifying his skill drills so that disabled veterans could better enjoy the sport.
Dick moved to River Falls, WI with his wife, Judy and their four children in 1975. He continued traveling the world while teaching bowling skills in Australia, Singapore, the Middle East, the Far East, and Europe. After suffering multiple strokes in 2014 he was unable to continue his travels but offered help to many local people seeking to better their bowling skills. He was always generous with his time and willing to help anyone who asked. He was truly a remarkable man and will be missed by so many, especially his devoted family members. Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy; three children, Scott (Amy), Shari (Joe) Hammer, and Cyndi; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dave (Shirley) and John (Laura); daughter-in-law, Kathy; niece, Jenny (John) Borzick; and niece-in-law, Penny. He is preceded in death by his son, Dan; brother, Bob (Judy); and nephew, Jeff. Due to Covid-19, no funeral mass will be held. A Private Family Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Sunday, August 30, 2020 at 2:00PM at St. Bridget Catholic Church in River Falls. In honor of Dick’s life, the family requests that any memorial gifts be given to St. Bridget’s Catholic Church or the River Falls Food Pantry. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

The Sport of Bowling – USBC

Congratulations to former Team USA member Wesley Low Jr., who rolled a 900 series Sunday at Glenfair Lanes in Glendale, Arizona!

The 23-year-old left-hander started his day at the 2020 Ponderosa Singles Classic with three perfect games.

The series is pending formal approval by the United States Bowling Congress and would make him the 36th bowler in history to achieve the feat. His set would be the 37th USBC-certified 900.

Complete details will be posted Monday on https://bit.ly/3jnQc0w.

Congrats again, Wesley Low!
