We have gathered and compiled all the information we could find on the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) and how entrepreneurs and small business owners can access the support provided by this new act.

The CARES Act provides economic relief for small business owners, sole proprietorships, independent contractors, cooperatives and employee owned businesses, private non-profits, and tribal small businesses. Find out more information on each of the programs available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XOG3e_6uXOeFO3E7L8h_I2QS7Vg_FqWV

The two main programs are as follows:
Payment Protection Program Loans (PPP):
The program would provide cash-flow assistance through 100 percent federally guaranteed loans to employers who maintain their payroll during this emergency. If employers maintain their payroll, the loans would be forgiven, which would help workers remain employed, as well as help affected small businesses and our economy to snap-back quicker after the crisis. PPP has a host of attractive features, such as forgiveness of up to 8 weeks of payroll based on employee retention and salary levels, no SBA fees and at least six months of deferral with maximum deferrals of up to a year. Small businesses and other eligible entities will be able to apply if they were harmed by COVID-19 between February 15, 2020 and June 30, 2020. This program is would be retroactive to February 15, 2020, in order to help bring workers who may have already been laid off back onto payrolls. Loans are available through June 30, 2020. Your max loan is 250% of your monthly average of your payroll costs for February 15th, 2019 - June 30th, 2019. Forgiveness of the loan is provided for eligible costs in the covered eight week period following approval and includes payroll costs, any payment of interest on any covered mortgage obligations, any payment on any covered rent obligation, and any covered utility payments. You can apply through any existing SBA 7(a) lender or through any federally insured depository institution, federally insured credit union, and Farm Credit System institution that is participating. Other regulated lenders will be available to make these loans once they are approved and enrolled in the program. Lenders may begin processing loan applications on April 3, 2020.

Economic Injury Disaster Loans & Emergency Economic Injury Grants (EIDL):
These grants provide an emergency advance of up to $10,000 to small businesses and private non-profits harmed by COVID-19 within three days of applying for an SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL). To access the advance, you must first apply for an EIDL and then request the advance. The advance does not need to be repaid under any circumstance, and may be used to keep employees on payroll, to pay for sick leave, meet increased production costs due to supply chain disruptions, or pay business obligations, including debts, rent and mortgage payments. EIDL is available to small businesses, independent contractors, cooperatives and employee owned businesses, private non-profits, and tribal small businesses. This advance will provide economic relief to businesses that are currently experiencing a temporary loss of revenue. EIDL has a very simple online application and can be completed in about ten minutes.

Duct - Your Business Companion

Check out this entrepreneur presenting at our meeting this Wednesday at UAlbany, join us at 8:30am.

Duct is the central platform for hard-workers, allowing the average person to operate their own business, all in the palm of their hand. If you offer a service, you can work on Duct. Consumers can hire-out these workers for any project imaginable.

While there are various job-listing websites and companies that attempt to bring the contractor to the consumer, there is no service that accomplishes this while adequately pleasing both the worker and consumer. We provide a simple interface that allows contractors to operate as a sole-proprietor in their own specialized trade. We are targeting millennial workers who offer a service (blue/white-collar), and millennial homeowners who have little free-time.
