Veterans Day was Originally Called Armistice Day. It was the day that WW 1 ended when the Germans capitulated to Allied demands. The Armistice Day holiday was officially recognized by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Then it was observed throughout the world to honor those who brought about the end of the “Great War, as World War 1 was known as back then. An armistice is a formal agreement between opposing sides in a war to cease fighting. In 1954 President Eisenhower renamed it Veterans Day to honor the people who served in WW 2 and Korea. So today it is still known as Veterans Day.
