Full quality photos will be emailed to you in the next couple weeks as I am able. If I am unable to take pictures during your event because I have to be on my horse at that time as well, my parents have agreed to take them for me. Contact me with your name, athlete number, school, and event(s) you want photographed. Thank you!

Let's reflect on excellence through a relationship with our horse and practice; but most of all, safety. Make sure to practice in the same size of arena you are competing in. Going from a small practice roping arena to a large open spaced arena creates a different dynamic. It heightens on competition day and depends on other events that day too. Coaches and families, be aware of the difference of practice and competition day. Make sure the kids are ready for that change. Practice is a necessity. Cassy Larson

[03/18/20]   I know everyone is wondering what the extended school closure means to OHSET. As mentioned in a previous email, we will be meeting Thursday evening as a board and should have more communication following. Candi

Here's where we are right now. Please read and remember there is no room on this page for your political disgruntlement or your attempt at epidemiology. This is a page toward informing OHSET athletes, volunteers, coaches and their families and affiliates about the difficult decisions that we are making right now and answering the questions we can. Please save your other opinions for your personal pages.

[03/12/20]   To be Clear. OHSET has NOT canceled their season, just two of this weekend's meets and on Saturday, we will discuss next weekend's meets and likely the Oregon Health Authorities recommendation which currently expires April 8. I need you to be patient with us; it's a very fluid situation that will require clear heads, who gather as much information as possible before making necessary and difficult decisions. AND we understand everyone wants to plan and schedule. We will keep you up to speed as quickly and as often as we can.

[03/12/20]   Well as I mentioned, this is a VERY fluid situation and we will take our lead from the schools. Southern District Meet has just canceled their meet. At this moment we don't know if it's a re-schedule or a cancellation. We are having a Board meeting on Saturday and will try to make some more projected decisions. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

[03/12/20]   UPDATE:
The Willamette District Meet has just been canceled. Whether there is a reschedule or how points and such will be dealt with, will be a future conversation.

[03/12/20]   Hello Everyone. We are aware that many are concerned about OHSET Meets and the COVID-19 Pandemic, Governor Brown's guidelines, and the real risk associated with upcoming meets. I just sent an email to your district chairs, who I am sure will share with coaches and teams as soon as they are able. Here is the brief version about how we will proceed. Please understand this situation is fluid and is changing daily.

This weekend's meets will proceeds unless schools say NO, we will follow their lead - right now, we are following the lead of OSAA and recognizing our meets are not in enclosed spaces. With that said, several precautionary mandates have been placed on these meets (more in email, but in brief here it goes)

1. Families should make their own choices to participate or not and we completely respect their choices.

2. These are now CLOSED venues. No spectators allowed; only coaches, athletes, and the parents or others necessary to get athletes to the meet and keep them safe.As well as meet volunteers necessary to keep the meet going. When these families are watching, they will do everything they can to stay a minimum of 3' away from those they don't live with.

3. Vendors will NOT be allowed.

4. Offices and/or judges rooms (the only enclosed spaces we have) are closed to all non-essential folks

5. Additional hand washing stations, portable restrooms, and dressing stalls will be established to help reduce close contact in restrooms.

6. Participants will be reminded about how to cough, washing their hands, etc.

7. If a school does not allow their team to participate, we will deal with that impact on a case by case basis.

Questions, concerns, etc. should be directed to your district chair or me directly.

For next week's meets.... We will be having a state board meeting this Saturday to discuss how we want to proceed for next week and when those final decisions will be announced. I'll continue to keep you as up to date as possible.

Respectfully, if you are sick, have a compromised immune system, etc. Stay Home. AND get as much rest as possible at the meets, eat well, keep your immune system strong.

Candi Bothum
State Chair.

[11/25/19]   Just a reminder, all first year and hardship scholarship applications are due in our hands by December 1. Late applications will not be considered.
