We offer classes to inspire and empower you to strengthen your body, inspire your mind and grow your soul in a comfortable and supportive environment.

Hi, I am Wendy and I love teaching yoga to the people of the Willamette Valley. I love practicing yoga because it makes my life better and I know it will make your life better as well. Yoga will make you stronger, more emotionally balanced, and create a deeper clarity and build stronger connections in your life. I have always been a very active, energetic, outdoorsy person with a desire and a need for physical fitness: running, hiking, biking, skiing, always experiencing benefits not just physically but mentally and emotionally. Then I began facing some health issues that constrained me from my physical activities. This initiated me to look elsewhere to find something that would give me these benefits and heal my body and mind. My search for these answers pointed to yoga. So, I dragged my sore achy body to a yoga class and there, my yoga journey began. Implementing the elements of yoga in my life I became stronger and my soul filled with hope. It took a lot of work and I wanted all the healing to happen overnight but every yoga practice I grew and grew. My yoga 200 hr. training at CorePower Yoga and a CorePower level 2, and a 200 hr. Baptiste training have given me the tools and inspiration to give my students a powerful yoga practice with benefits that improve every aspect of their life. I am super excited to be currently working on my 500 hr training. At Pacific Yew Yoga, I teach a class for all people who want to grow and learn to live their truth and be the best version of themselves as they can possibly be. I am eager to go on this adventure with you. When I am off my mat you will find me spending time with my husband, my kids, and my dog, preferably outside in the mountains or on a beach somewhere. I love Oregon and I enjoy all that it has to offer.

3 Ways to Feel More Grounded
by Angela Inglis

During these trying times, we all want to feel more grounded. When we’re grounded, we’re focused and when we’re focused, we’re more efficient and effective. When we’re more efficient and effective, we get things done in less time and that means more free time for the things we enjoy.

According to Ayurveda, when we feel restless, indecisive, unable to quiet the mind and unable to be still, we are suffering from an excess of Vata Dosha. This is sometimes referred to as Vata aggravation. For more information on the Doshas, check out this article.
When a Dosha is aggravated, it needs to be pacified and there are a few ways we can achieve this through our yoga practice.

1. Meditate
Come into a seated pose on your favourite cushion or lie down on your mat with knees bent and feet flat. Feeling connected to the earth is incredibly therapeutic. Even if your mind is still making lists, the physical stillness will have a beneficial effect on your nervous system, shifting it from the Sympathetic Fight-or-Flight response into the Parasympathetic Rest-and-Digest response.

2. Slow Down
If meditation is not your thing, try a Yin or Restorative Yoga class or even a gentle or slow Hatha class. In Ayurveda, they say that moving too quickly in mind or body can cause symptoms that range from restlessness to full-blown anxiety. The slower we go, the more stable we feel in the body and the more quiet there is in the mind.

3. Alternate Nostril Breathing
It is said that this Pranayama, or breathing practice, brings balance to the mind-body system by balancing the two hemispheres of the brain. Why not test the theory yourself? Try it and see how you feel afterwards.

In Ayurveda, it’s understood that we regain balance in a Dosha by reducing the factors in our lives that are similar to that Dosha. Vata Dosha has many characteristics but the one we’ve focused on here is mobility. So, if there are aspects of your life that require you to move quickly, think quickly, multi-task and shift your attention from one thing to another without pause, consider how you can reduce the amount of time you spend on activities like this.

Consider where and how you can modify your day or work to bring a slowness and mindfulness to some activities. Can you get up 30 minutes earlier and have a slower more relaxed start to your day, sitting at the table and gazing out the window as you enjoy a hot beverage? Can you leave a little earlier for work so that you’re not racing on your bike or zigzagging through traffic in your car or running for public transit? Can you turn off your devices an hour before bed to give your eyes and mind a rest from the constant movement of shifting images?

If you can’t reduce the offending factors, then use the advice above to introduce opposite qualities – like stillness and stability – whenever you can.

Remember, it took a while for our nervous systems to become overwrought and develop these symptoms that resulted from hyper-mobility, so it will take a while to return to a more grounded, focused state of being.

What are your favourite practices for feeling more grounded and focused?

Bill Gate's views on the CVirus....
What is the Corona/ Covid-19 Virus Really Teaching us?

I’m a strong believer that there is a spiritual purpose behind everything that happens, whether that is what we perceive as being good or being bad.
As I meditate upon this, I want to share with you what I feel the Corona/ Covid-19 virus is really doing to us:
- It is reminding us that we are all equal, regardless of our culture, religion, occupation, financial situation or how famous we are. This disease treats us all equally, perhaps we should too.If you don’t believe me,
just ask Tom Hanks.
- It is reminding us that we are all connected and something that affects one person has an effect on another. It is reminding us that the false borders that we have put up have little value as this virus does not need
a passport. It is reminding us, by oppressing us for a short time, of those in this world whose whole life is spent in oppression.
- It is reminding us of how precious our health is and how we have moved to neglect it through eating nutrient poor manufactured food and drinking water that is contaminated with chemicals
upon chemicals. If we don’t look after our health, we will, of course, get sick.
- It is reminding us of the shortness of life and of what is most important for us to do, which is to help each other, especially those who are old or sick. Our purpose
is not to buy toilet roll.
- It is reminding us of how materialistic our society has become and how, when in times of difficulty, we remember that it’s the essentials that we need (food, water, medicine)
as opposed to the luxuries that we sometimes unnecessarily give value to.
- It is reminding us of how important our family and home life is and how much we have neglected this. It is forcing us back into our houses so we can rebuild them into our home and
to strengthen our family unit.
- It is reminding us that our true work is not our job, that is what we do, not what we were created to do.
Our true work is to look after each other, to protect each other and to be of benefit to one another.
- It is reminding us to keep our egos in check. It is reminding us that no matter how great we think we are or how great others think we are,
a virus can bring our world to a standstill.
- It is reminding us that the power of freewill is in our hands. We can choose to cooperate and help each other, to share, to give, to help and to support each other or we can choose to be selfish, to hoard, to look after
only our self. Indeed, it is difficulties that bring out our true colors.
- It is reminding us that we can be patient, or we can panic. We can either understand that this type of situation has happened many times before in history and will pass, or we can panic and see it as the end of the
world and, consequently, cause ourselves more harm than good.
- It is reminding us that this can either be an end or a new beginning. This can be a time of reflection and understanding, where we learn from our mistakes, or it can be the start of a cycle which will continue until
we finally learn the lesson we are meant to.
- It is reminding us that this Earth is sick. It is reminding us that we need to look at the rate of deforestation just as urgently as we look at the speed at which toilet rolls are disappearing off of shelves. We are
sick because our home is sick.
- It is reminding us that after every difficulty, there is always ease. Life is cyclical, and this is just a phase in this great cycle. We do not need to panic; this too shall pass.
Whereas many see the Corona/ Covid-19 virus as a great disaster, I prefer to see it as a great corrector. It is sent to remind us of the important lessons that we seem to have forgotten and it is up to us if we will learn them
or not

Hi Everyone,
We hope that you are all staying safe and taking care of yourselves and your families. We love and appreciate our PYY community and know that this can be a difficult time in people’s lives.
Our COVID-19 Response:
In an effort to do what we can at Pacific Yew Yoga to prevent the spread of illness and provide a safe and healthy space for people to practice, we are initiating these safety measures:
We are closely monitoring all government recommendations and at this point PYY will remain open unless things change. We feel that yoga and other exercise options that PYY offers can actually boost the immune system and help with the anxiety and stress that people are feeling right now.
When you come please bring your own mats and props and wash your hands prior to class and after class. PYY Mats, bolsters, blankets and straps will not be available to use. You are welcome to bring props from home. If you don't have props for Gentle Yoga consider bringing a folded blanket or two or a firm pillow.
Teachers will not be providing hands-on adjustments. Instead of touch, teachers will give verbal cues and instructions.
Used blocks will be sprayed with disinfectant after each use.
Teachers have been instructed to keep all high touch surfaces cleaned with appropriate disinfectant before and after class. Please stay home from the studio if you are not feeling well so that we can maintain a safe environment for others who attend class.
Sending you all wishes for wellness and health! We hope these measures are temporary and that our communities stay as well as possible!
Thank you all for your support to the studio and the love and practice you bring to Pacific Yew Yoga.
Best,
Pacific Yew Yoga Team
