[07/14/16]   When making a lifestyle change, too often our biggest pitfall is focusing too much on the end result rather than the process.

While its helpful to have a viable goal, it's better to ask yourself, what behaviors need to be a part of my life to get to that goal?

There will be days that you win and days you feel like you are losing but the main thing is that you consistently move forward and not backward (e.g, "well, I've blown it, might as well just start over on Monday"). In the end it's better to string together a number of days where you hit your goal with 80% accuracy than a handful of days where you hit your goal perfectly. In the end consistency always trumps perfection. 💪💪💪

Allow the pendulum to hang out in the middle rather than swinging too far to one direction or the other. Willpower is an exhaustible resource that eventually runs out. Choose the middle ground of moderation and balance-which allows you room to be genuine, real and imperfect.

Sunday reflections while driving the last million hours of this trip:

Ever heard these expressions?
Strong is the new skinny
Strong is the new sexy
Strong is the new awesome
Strong is the new beautiful
Strong is the new blah blah blah

You should not have to apologize for being strong by making it into something that it's not. While I agree wholeheartedly that strong is awesome, sexy, and beautiful, strength is strength. Strong is strong.

This is an insult to those of us whose main priority is to become STRONG for the sake of being strong. To put the emphasis back on our physical appearance belittles that, and puts additional emphasis on the lie that a woman's greatest endeavor should always be her appearance, how others perceive her.

Very proud of my friend #swolesister and client April who had a very successful meet today! Here she is with her 315 #squat and 375 #deadlift. She also benched 145 and ended up with a 835 lb total, 35 lbs more than her goal! Excited to see what she does in the future! My ultimate goal is to pass along the transformational power that strength training has to every person. Fitness is a lifestyle that is much bigger than a look, a workout, or a diet plan. As such, my approach to fitness considers the whole person. I strive to encourage my clients to begin with the foundation that they are enough. This has to be the starting place from which we can add value to our lives as we endeavor to become the best versions of ourselves.

As a powerlifting and strongman competitor and coach, I write programming and provide nutrition coaching specific to contest goals as well as programs for more general fitness goals.
